Regina Hall Breaks Down in Laughter Presenting Golden Globe to Absent Kevin Costner, Who Is Sheltering in Place in Santa Barbara: “Let’s Pray, Everyone”

Regina Hall struggled to finish presenting the 2023 Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Drama Series to Yellowstone star Kevin Costner, who was unable to attend Tuesday night’s (Jan. 10) event due to flooding in California.

The Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul actress could barely keep it together as she read off the teleprompter while presenting the award to an absent Costner.

“Kevin Costner, he so much wanted to be —,” she began, before beginning to laugh. “I always like how they write this. It’s just like, ‘He so much wanted to be —.’ No, I’m sure he did.”

She continued, “He so much wanted to be here, but because of the — it’s been raining — the unprecedented weather and flooding, he has to shelter in place in Santa Barbara.”

The Girl’s Trip star then smacked her forehead and mockingly said, “Jesus!”

While she attempted to pull herself together, she continued, “This is a sad story right now. This is — he’s stuck in Santa Barbara. Let’s pray, everyone.”

When Hall was finally able to keep a straight face, she added, “Everyone, we do, we pray and we hope that everyone affected by these storms remains safe and I’m gonna accept that award right there on your behalf, Kevin.”

Earlier in the day, Costner revealed in an Instagram post that he would not be attending the Golden Globes due to the flooding. The actor apologized to his fans for not being there, adding that “nobody’s sadder” than him about the situation.

Following the awards show, he took to his social media page once again to acknowledge his win for his portrayal of patriarch John Dutton on Yellowstone, which is currently in its fifth season.

“Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press and @goldenglobes for this tremendous honor and to the @yellowstone team for bringing John Dutton’s world to life,” he wrote. “I share this recognition with my castmates, the producers, and our incredible crew. Most of all, thank you to our show’s fans, who love Yellowstone Ranch as if it were their own.”
