‘Willow’ Season 1 Ending Explained: End Credits Scene Teases Season 2… And Season 3?

Spoilers for the Willow Season 1 Finale on Disney+ Ahead! You’ve been warned!

Willow Season 1 Episode 8 “Children of the Wyrm” finally gave us what we’ve been waiting for: Elora Danan (Ellie Bamber) vs. The Crone (Rosabell Laurenti Sellers as Lili, Jane Carr in full Crone glory). After Elora and Kit (Ruby Cruz) discovered that Airk (Dempsey Bryk) had been turned to darkness by the Crone, they did their best to save him from her spell. While Elora almost fell for the Wyrm’s promises of happiness, Willow (Warwick Davis) arrived just in time to save her and her friends, who had been turned to stone. A lot happened in the Willow finale, guys. Elora defeated the Crone, Kit brought Airk back to the light, and Graydon (Tony Revolori) seemed to perish at the Crone’s hand. But did he?

The last moments of Willow Season 1 not only confirm that Graydon survived, but tease that he will be the Harbinger of the Wyrm in the seasons to come. Yep, the end credits of Willow Season 1 reveal that what we’ve been watching is just the first chapter in a three volume trilogy. The Crone might be defeated, but her master, the Wyrm is still plotting his revenge.

But what exactly does the end of Willow Season 1 mean? Is Graydon a bad guy now? And do we know for sure that Disney+ will make future seasons of Willow? Here’s everything we know about the ending of Willow Season 1 and the possibility of Seasons 2 and 3…

Willow Season 1 Ending Explained: Is Graydon the Harbinger of the Wyrm?

Let’s back up. The Crone’s plan seems to be to seduce as many of our heroes to the Wyrm’s side as possible. Ideally, she would have gotten both Kit and Airk on her team along with Elora Danan. When Elora resists the Wyrm’s fantasy life for her — a happily ever after with Airk — the Crone steps in to fight her. Graydon, armed with Cherlinda’s wand, uses his newfound sorcery to fight the Crone on Elora’s behalf. However, he finds himself zapped straight into what I’ll call “Wyrm World” for his efforts. Graydon appears to be dead.

Elora eventually defeats the Crone with Willow’s help. However, when a mind-controlled Airk frets about Lili’s demise, she claims this was the plan the whole time. She kisses Airk, pushing her power into him and transforming him into the Harbinger of the Wyrm. Kit is only able to fight him with the aid of the Kymerian Cuirass and the reminder that she can still reach her brother with love. Airk eventually comes back to the light.

As the gang leaves the Immemoriam City, Elora feels a pull back to the Wyrm’s chamber. We later learn that, yes, Graydon is alive. However the fantasy the Wyrm creates for him isn’t an idyllic garden with loved ones, but a battlefield. A leather-clad, short-haired version of Elora Danan tells Graydon that she “wants” him to stand by her side in the battle ahead to bring her light to the world. He’s clearly seduced by this and totally cool with her army of monsters.

So it seems that since Airk was a dud, the Wyrm has shifted strategies. Graydon is going to be possessed for a third time and will become the Harbinger of the Wyrm. That means should Willow return for Season 2, we can expect Graydon to be the main antagonist. But will there be more Willow?

Willow end credits reveal of Volumes I-III

Willow End Credits Explained: What are Volumes II and III?

If you sat through the end credits of the Willow season finale, you’d have seen a fascinating teaser for what’s potentially to come. You know how each episode has opened with a “chapter” page? As if the show itself is an adaptation of a beloved fantasy novel? Well, at the close of Willow Season 1, the “book” we’ve been reading is closed and placed back on the shelf.

The real surprise is that what we’ve been watching is just Volume I in a three volume series. There are still chapters yet to explore in Volumes II and III.

The end credits of Willow‘s finale definitely tease at least two more seasons of the Disney+ show. But is this a promise that Disney+ will make two more seasons of Willow?

Will There Be a Willow Season 2 — Or Season 3 — on Disney+?

Despite what the end credits of Willow Season 1 teases, we still do not know if Disney+ is planning on making future seasons of the show. Willow has yet to make a dent in Nielsen’s streaming charts, suggesting it’s not the hit Disney+ was hoping for. That being said, that’s not super surprising. Willow the film is after all a cult hit.

One thing’s for sure: Warwick Davis is on board for more seasons of Willow. When Decider chatted with the legendary actor before the premiere of the Disney+ show, he said, “I mean eight episodes really wasn’t enough to tell this story. Let’s put it that way.”

Let’s hope that Disney+ is willing to keep funding this crazy, kooky adventure.
