Dolly Parton Tells ‘The View’ She’s “Heartbroken” for Close Friend Priscilla Presley Over Lisa Marie Presley’s Death

Country music superstar, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and national treasure Dolly Parton virtually stopped by today’s episode of The Viewwhere she further paid tribute to Lisa Marie Presley following her surprising and tragic death at age 54 last week.

Joy Behar brought up the late singer, who was the only daughter of Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley, and asked Parton what moved her to send her condolences to the family via social media.

The country music sensation revealed that she was “heartbroken” for Priscilla, a friend she has “known for a long time.”

“[I] just think about the sorrow and the grief that a mother would have losing a child. And then of course knowing Elvis would be so happy to have her with him again,” she said. “And just all of us just being there for that family we all feel like we’re part of.”

She continued, “I was heartbroken for Priscilla as well as the world being so shocked and horrified by the early death of some special, wonderful girl. So it just feels like a family. I was just talking about how we all love that family as if it’s our own. It’s a tragic thing.”

Aside from her friendship with Priscilla, Parton goes way back with the King of Rock himself. She previously opened up about how Elvis was set to record her song, “I Will Always Love You,” before she had to turn him down when his business manager asked for half of the publishing rights in a decision that “broke” her heart.

“Priscilla, Elvis’ wife, told me that when she and Elvis divorced, Elvis sang my song to her,” she told W magazine. “That touched me so deeply.”

Following the news of Lisa Marie’s passing, Parton wrote on Instagram, “Priscilla, I know how sad you must be. May God comfort you at this time. Elvis, I know how happy you must be to finally have her home and to have her back with you. Lisa Marie, may you rest in peace. We all love all of you.”

Lisa Marie died on Thursday (Jan. 12) after being rushed to the hospital for a reported cardiac arrest. Her mother confirmed the news in a statement saying, “It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known,” per the Associate Press.

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC. Watch Parton’s full appearance in the video above.
