Millie Bobby Brown is a Sword-Wielding Dragon-Slayer in First ‘Damsel’ Footage

Millie Bobby Brown gets to have a sword in the first-look footage for her upcoming Netflix movie Damsel, and all we can say is: It’s about time! Imagine if they had given Eleven a sword in Season 1 of Stranger Things—there’s no way Papa would have come back from the dead.

Netflix gave fans a brief but tantalizing glimpse at Brown’s new movie on Wednesday morning, in their “2023 Films Preview” video, which you can watch in the player above. The video features first-look clips of upcoming 2023 Netflix movies, including a look at Damsel, starring Brown as a medieval-times woman named Elodie who dutifully agrees to marry a prince (Nick Robinson). But then it turns out the royal family actually recruited her as a human sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. So now Elodie has to fight a fire-breathing dragon to survive.

In the first-look footage, which you can find at the 1:25 timestamp, you’ll see Brown, with long red hair and white, floral-embroidered dress, sailing off to her new life. Seconds later, in a different scene, she rips the remains of that pretty dress off, revealing a tight leather top, as she sheaths her sword. We don’t get to see the dragon that was promised in the film’s logline, sadly, but just know that there will be one. Millie Bobby Brown with a sword and a dragon to slay? Now that’s my kind of movie.

Also starring Angela Bassett and Robin Wright, Damsel is set to premiere on Netflix on October 13, 2023. The movie was directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, with a screenplay by Dan Mazeau. For Brown, this is the Stranger Things star’s third Netflix movie, following the success of her detective films Enola Holmes and Enola Holmes 2. Brown is also set to star in the upcoming Netflix action film, The Electric State, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.

Damsel will begin streaming on Netflix on October 13, 2023.
