ABC Cuts Ties With ‘GMA3’ Stars Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes After Extramarital Affair: Report

After nearly two months of rumors, Good Morning America hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes have been booted from ABC following their mediation session with the network earlier this week. The two hosted the lunchtime program GMA3: What You Need To Know alongside Dr. Jennifer Ashton before their extramarital affair was exposed and ABC quickly removed them from the air.

According to TMZ, Robach and Holmes had a “marathon mediation session” yesterday (Jan. 26) with ABC, which resulted in the two anchors “severing ties” with the network. They will both receive payouts, as stated in their contracts, according to TMZ sources.

A source told the tabloid that the session was “extremely contentious,” alleging ABC accused Robach and Holmes of multiple accounts of misconduct. Robach was allegedly accused of having liquor in her dressing room, which an insider called “ridiculous” because ABC reportedly sent her some of the bottles.

Robach was also accused of attending a College Football National Championship game last year and arriving to work “drunk” the following day. A source told TMZ that the accusation was “insane” and implied that she was “simply tired.” These latest updates follow recent reports that correspondence between the anchors and the network has involved “a lot of finger-pointing.”

ABC allegedly accused Robach and Holmes of mishandling their workplace romance and waiting too long before disclosing their relationship to ABC executives. The network reportedly claimed that their “behavior on set” was “uncomfortable” for some staff.

ABC has not publicly confirmed the news of Holmes and Robach’s ousting. Decider has reached out to ABC for confirmation, but did not hear back by the time of reporting.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Robach and Holmes would participate in a mediation session with ABC. At the time, it was stated that the network didn’t want Robach and Holmes “back together on the same set” and was having trouble deciding whether they want to get rid of both anchors. TMZ was told that the news anchors were “coming to the mediation as a united front” with their lawyers, Andrew Brettler and Eric George, in attendance via Zoom.

The two hosts last appeared on their talk show on Dec. 2 before being taken off air due to backlash from their romance, which was first reported by The Daily Mail last November and happened while both were legally married to their respective spouses. Following the big reveal, allegations emerged that Holmes previously engaged in workplace affairs with both an ABC producer and an intern.

In December, ABC News exec Kim Godwin announced that the network was conducting an “internal review” into the new couple’s relationship — which she called a “distraction.” Godwin also stated that, at the time, the affair was “not a violation of company policy.”

Before the mediation session, it was reported that ABC had not begun seeking permanent replacements for Robach and Holmes, despite rumors that fill-in DeMarco Morgan would replace Holmes. Since the two hosts were taken off air from GMA3, the show has welcomed a variety of temporary fill-ins to occupy the news desk alongside regular host Dr. Jennifer Ashton, including Morgan, Rhiannon Ally, Stephanie Ramos and Gio Benitez.
