Showtime Titles Begin to Disappear as Streamer Plans to Merge with Paramount+

It’s a Showtime shakeup. The network is merging with Paramount+ to create a new platform titled (predictably) Paramount+ With Showtime. Paramount Global announced the news yesterday (Jan. 30), sharing in a note to staff that Showtime titles will now be lumped in with Paramount+ content, where they will be accessible in the streamer’s premier subscription package, per Axios.

Of course, with any streaming shift, there’s bound to be casualties (just look at HBO Max‘s many cuts over the past few months). With the news of the Showtime merger, AV Club reported that multiple titles are disappearing from the platform, beginning with Joseph Gordon-Levitt‘s Uber drama Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber and Jim Carrey‘s comedy Kidding.

The outlet reports that American Rust and On Becoming a God in Central Florida are also leaving Showtime’s streaming service, although American Rust is expected to find a new home on Freevee, the platform formerly known as IMDb TV.

Showtime is also chipping away at one-season titles like American Gigolo starring Jon Bernthal, as well as Let the Right One Inneither of which will be renewed for Season 2 at the network, according to Deadline. While Showtime is slicing away at its content, Deadline offered a bit of hope, reporting that “all titles removed from Showtime’s platforms as part of the restructuring, which include short-lived series, will be available to take elsewhere.”

One completed project’s fate has been firmly decided, though. Deadline reports that Lisa Taddeo adaptation Three Women will no longer move forward on Showtime. The drama, which stars Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, DeWanda Wise and Gabrielle Creevy, has already been completed and is being shopped around to other networks, but has not found a final home just yet.

Showtime’s merger with Paramount+ is expected to take place later this year, and will affect both linear TV and streaming.
