No More Money in This Banana Stand: Netflix to Remove ‘Arrested Development’ From the Platform

Where to Stream:

Arrested Development

Arrested Development first aired on Fox from 2003 until its cancellation in 2006, and it was a pretty big deal when Netflix acquired the beloved sitcom back in 2011. Not only did that mean that the first three seasons of the cult comedy would be available for binge watching, but Netflix also used the show as a way to bolster its newly-created production studio, producing two additional seasons of the show with the original cast.

And now in a bit of a surprising move, all five seasons of Arrested Development are going to be removed from Netflix next month. While shows that have been acquired by streaming platforms come and go, it’s rare for Netflix to remove an original show that it produced. (The last time this happened was last year when Netflix’s Marvel series, including Daredevil and Jessica Jones, moved over to Disney+.)

When will Arrested Development leave Netflix?

The last day to stream any of Arrested Development‘s five seasons on Netflix will be March 14, which is when their non-exclusive licensing agreement expires.

Where can I stream Arrested Development after it leaves Netflix?

The first three seasons of Arrested Development are currently available on Hulu, and will remain there for the foreseeable future. It is expected that Seasons 4 and 5 will eventually land there as well, though no date for that has been set. (But if we’re being honest, why would you want to sully the legacy of the sitcom by watching those inferior seasons anyway?)

And if you need even more family dysfunction in your live, remember that HBO’s Succession — which is really just a dramatic Arrested Development — returns for Season 4 on Sunday, March 26.
