Kristin Chenoweth may have just one-upped everyone in the dating world as she recalled the time she was wooed by the late, great Prince while speaking on this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.

The brief romance came to be after Chenoweth’s manager called her with a message from the “Purple Rain” singer. While she originally hung up on her manager in disbelief, Chenoweth ultimately agreed to the date once she realized it wasn’t a prank.

She remembered driving up to Prince’s house where they were having dinner and seeing a “big purple rug” before his chef brought her to his library.

“I’m sweating bullets, I’m so nervous,” she recalled. “And here comes, ‘click, click, click, click.’ Prince’s heels, right? Comes in. He was like, ‘Hi.’ I was like, ‘I’d like to party like it’s 1999 and wear my raspberry beret.'”

While the musician was unamused by Chenoweth’s joke, she said they eventually went downstairs, had dinner, and had a “great talk about life, love [and] faith.” Eventually, they made their way to his basement, where he showed her his display of “200 guitars.”

“He goes, ‘Pick one up. Play one,'” she told a shocked Drew Barrymore and Ross Mathews. “So I picked up this long, white-necked one.  I turned it over and it was all scratched. I was like, ‘What happened?’ He goes, ‘Elvis’ belt.'”

At one point, Prince brought her to his movie room, where he played a video of Chenoweth performing that he said “inspired” him. He told her, “What you do is what I like to do. And please never stop.”

But that wasn’t the duo’s only rendezvous!

After Chenoweth had lost out on an Emmy, Prince told her to invite everyone at the award show back to his house. The Broadway staple joked that she invited people she didn’t even know — including Michael C. Hall from Dexter.

“I was like, ‘I know we don’t know each other, but would you like to go to Prince’s house?'” she recalled.

Of course, everyone jumped at the opportunity, and Prince ended up performing a three-hour concert for the entire party. Mathews echoed what we were all thinking when he called Chenoweth’s impressive tale “the best story ever.”
