Recent Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce is a performer both on and off the field. The affable Kansas City Chiefs tight end was just announced as the March 4 host of Saturday Night Live (along with musical guest Kelsea Ballerini). Kelce made the announcement about his hosting duties on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night (Feb. 16), telling Fallon and his audience, “I used to watch Saturday Night Live with my mother and it’s an absolute honor and a privilege to be hosting SNL March 4.”
But the sweet hosting announcement wasn’t Kelce’s only memorable moment on the episode.
As his interview with Fallon came to a close, he and the host showed off their karaoke skills, teaming up to sing the Beastie Boys’ classic “(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party).”
“I know that you do some karaoke,” Fallon said to Kelce as he introduced their performance, saying that there was “one song that has been very important to you during this playoff run, and I thought maybe, if we can convince you…”
Kelce didn’t need any convincing, shouting over to the house band The Roots, “Kick it!”as he launched into the 1986 classic.
Kelce led the performance of the song, which has become something of a trademark for him, while Fallon added background vocals, and they sang all the way to the commercial break. The man certainly looks comfortable performing on the stage. Considering the uneven track record of past athlete hosts of SNL (Tom Brady, anyone?), we’re hoping he pulls off a great episode.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on NBC. Watch Fallon and Kelce’s karaoke performance in the video above.
