It looks like Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) weren’t quite as alone as they thought. A TikTok user has spotted a gaffe in the latest episode of The Last of Us. And as far as continuity errors go, it’s a pretty funny one.

The first half of “Kin” is supposed to invoke feelings of loneliness. As Joel and Ellie trek across a snow-covered Wyoming, they have no idea when, where, or if they’re going to find Joel’s brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna). All they know is that they need to brave the elements and whatever horrors a local couple (Graham Greene and Elaine Miles) warned them about. The emptiness of this land is supposed to be both beautiful and terrifying. That’s why it’s so funny to see not one but two crew members hanging out in the background.

The mistake happens about 15 and a half minutes in. During an aerial shot of Joel and Ellie crossing a bridge, two groups of people can be seen on the left side of the screen. They’re clearly facing Joel and Ellie and are surrounded by equipment. It’s truly a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment.

Other users were quick to respond. Most mentioned that they “didn’t even notice” or asked @domineo32 why they were looking in the corners of the episode in the first place. Some made jokes about the crew members being stray Infected. But the top liked comment brought to mind another HBO mistake: “Better than a Starbucks cup.”

The final season of Game of Thrones was ripped to shreds for a plethora of reasons. But no element was more widely mocked than the Starbucks cup that appeared in Season 8, Episode 4. That mistake became more than just a misplaced cup of coffee. It became a symbol of everything wrong with this widely ridiculed season, especially because series showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss had cameos in the same scene as the offending cup.

The Last of Us‘ mistake hasn’t been as scrutinized as the Game of Thrones one, probably because most fans still like Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin’s show. At the time of publication, the original TikTok only had around 12,000 likes and had been viewed around 215,000 times. But it’s still fun to catch a silly mistake. We’re going to keep pretending those people in the background are just highly organized Infected.
