The long-awaited premiere of Prime Video’s latest original, Daisy Jones & the Six, is just around the corner.

The new series will star Riley Keough as Daisy Jones, a singer in the 1970s who joins the rock band The Six. They quickly become one of the most famous bands in the world, with a breakup almost as legendary as their chart-topping album.

Sam Claflin plays The Six frontman, Billy Dunne, while Will Harrison, Sebastian Chacon, Josh Whitehouse, and Suki Waterhouse round out the rest of the band.

The fictional band from the show is now a real band with actual songs, so we understand how this might get confusing. You might wonder if this is based on a true story or why it reminds you so much of Fleetwood Mac. Luckily, we have answers. Read on to find out everything you need to know about what inspired Daisy Jones & the Six.

IS DAISY JONES & THE SIX BASED ON A TRUE STORY?

No, but it’s easy to understand why you might think so. Presented in the increasingly popular documentary style — a style for which demand has grown 142% according to Parrot Analytics — it’s almost as if Daisy and The Six were once really the musicians known for hits such as “Look At Us Now,” “Regret Me,” and “Aurora.” And while the story takes a lot of inspiration from Fleetwood Mac and the inter-band romances that inspired “Rumours,” Daisy Jones, Billy Dunne, and the rest of the band are all fictional characters.

IS DAISY JONES & THE SIX BASED ON A BOOK?

Yes!

The ten-episode series is based on the novel of the same name by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The novel was a Reese’s Book Club pick in March 2019 and became one of the bestselling books of that year.

The book is written in an oral history style based on “interviews” done with members of the band, their family members, and other people there, such as managers and agents. The series will also use the interview format, presenting it as a documentary rather than a written, oral history.

WHERE CAN I BUY DAISY JONES & THE SIX?

Daisy Jones & the Six is available as a paperback book, e-book, and audiobook.

Right now, the paperback is available on Amazon for $10 and on Bookshop, an online retailer that supports independent bookstores, for $16. But if you love TV tie-in covers, you’re in luck — a new edition featuring Riley Keough on the cover was just released. Both editions are available on Amazon and Bookshop.

Daisy Jones & the Six is also available as an e-book. You can get it from Amazon for $13. Amazon e-books can be read using the free Kindle app on smartphones and tablets, or you can invest in a Kindle e-reader. We love the Kindle Paperwhite because of its bigger screen, long battery life, and lightweight, easy-to-hold design.

The audiobook is unique, thanks to the book’s unique format. Instead of having one narrator throughout, the book has 21 different actors reading for the 21 characters whose interviews appear. The cast includes Jennifer Beals, Judy Greer, Pablo Schreiber, and Benjamin Bratt.

You can get the audiobook from Audible or Libro.fm. Both services cost $14.99/month; for that price, you’ll receive one credit per month to redeem for any book of your choosing. You’ll also get your first credit free from both. If you’re interested in the audiobook without the subscription, you can get it from Audible for $13.77 or Libro.fm for $28.
