Former Daily Show correspondent Hasan Minhaj is getting back to his roots by sitting in the hosting chair at the show this week. Minhaj wasted no time during his opening monologue last night (Feb. 27) roasting Dilbert comics creator Scott Adams, who was recently dropped by his distributor and has faced public backlash for his racist comments on YouTube.

Adams, while speaking on his Real Coffee With Scott Adams show, discussed the statement “It’s OK to be white,” a phrase that has been used by trolls to incite racial outrage.

Adams stated in his video that he chose to move to a neighborhood where very few Black people live, and stated, “I would say, based on the current way things are going, the best advice I would give to white people is to get the hell away from Black people. Just get the fuck away. Wherever you have to go, just get away. Because there’s no fixing this. This can’t be fixed.”

On The Daily Show, Minhaj took aim at Adams’ atrocious comments, saying, “Oh my God! He just kept going! He was like, ‘Black people are a hate group, white people should stay away from Black people, I stay away from Black people.’ And Kanye heard this and was like, ‘Whoa, my brother, pace yourself.’”

“I’ve noticed one thing about a certain type of rich person,” Minhaj continued. “When they don’t have problems of their own, they have to make up problems just to make their lives interesting.

“They’re just like, sitting at home in the Jacuzzi like, ‘Mmm, what if I tweet about trans high school swimmers?’ I can guarantee you J.K. Rowling had zero opinions about trans people when she was on welfare,” Minhaj said to applause.

“By the way,” he added, “this is why I think we need a wealth tax. We need a wealth tax, not for infrastructure or schools, none of that Bernie shit. Rich people, this is for your own good. The wealth tax is actually a shut the fuck up tax. Spend more time working, kissing your loved ones, getting groceries, you know, being a normal person. Because normal people don’t hate Black people. We’re all too busy hating that one squeaky wheel on the shopping cart.”

Since Adams’ initial comments were made last week, he has responded to the media backlash by suggesting that even the press is a hate group. I guess they’re a paycheck when they’re carrying your cartoon, but a hate group when they’re not.

The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11/10c on Comedy Central. Watch Minhaj’s full monologue in the video above.
