Will Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams) finally get the happily ever after Sanditon fans feel she so richly deserves? A new official trailer for Sanditon Season 3 on Masterpiece on PBS suggests that yes, she just might. The ninety second trailer opens with a pensive Charlotte telling someone, “Too often young women are thought to be strangers to their own minds. It is left to fathers or uncles to choose the path their life should take. As if we require saving from ourselves,” and ends with little Leonora “Leo” Colbourne (Flora Mitchell) hopefully wondering if Charlotte is staying in Sanditon for good. There’s also teases of new romances blossoming, Alexander Colbourne (Ben Lloyd-Hughes) and Charlotte’s hands briefly touching, and the promise of literal fireworks. The countdown to the final season of Sanditon is on!

Based on Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel, Sanditon follows spirited country girl Charlotte Heywood as she navigates the highs and lows of Regency romance in a seaside resort town. In Sanditon Season 2, Charlotte found herself falling in love again with her brooding employer, Mr. Colbourne. However, a bit of miscommunication left Charlotte assuming that Colbourne wanted to fire her from her position as governess…when he really wanted to pluck up the courage to ask her to marry him. The two would-be lovers parted ways, with Colbourne taking his niece and daughter to Bath and Charlotte acquiescing to her parents’ wishes for her to accept an engagement with a local farmer named Ralph (Cai Bridgen).

The Sanditon Season 3 official trailer is full of hints that Charlotte may still yet have the opportunity to rekindle her romance with Colbourne. After all, Colbourne himself tells Charlotte that if she’s taught him anything, it’s that “a young woman has a right to choose her own destiny.” We also have Lady Susan (Sophie Winkleman) and Samuel Colbourne (Liam Garrigan) gossiping that Charlotte is not married yet and a dramatic shot of Colbourne strutting towards Charlotte on a cliff.

Other things of note in the trailer? Georgiana (Crystal Clarke) looking as glamorous as always, with at least one fiery entrance. There’s a shockingly flirtatious glance between Augusta Markham (Eloise Webb) and Edward Denham (Jack Fox) of all people. Lady Susan and Samuel Colbourne racing carriages on the Sanditon beach. Oh, and Arthur Parker (Turlough Convery) seems happier than he’s ever been.

If the official Sanditon Season 3 trailer is any indication, the final season of the hit Masterpiece show will be full of love, laughter, and longing looks.

Sanditon Season 3 will premiere on Sunday, March 19 on Masterpiece on PBS
