Now that You Season 4, Part 1 and Part 2 are finally out in the world, we know which of Joe Goldberg’s (Penn Badgley) London acquaintances survived the Eat The Rich Killer and which…didn’t.

If you’re not caught up on Netflix‘s murderous thriller and want to avoid major spoilers, consider this your chance to stop reading. But if you sped through the second half of Sera Gamble’s series and want a recap of Season 4’s deaths, or if you’re simply dying (sorry) to know who fails to make it out, you’ve come to the right place.

Season 4 featured several deadly twists, showed friends mysteriously dropping like flies, took down two bodyguards, and even tricked viewers with a fake-out death.

Wondering who died in You Season 4? From the Season 4 premiere to the finale, here’s a recap of Season 4, Part 1 and Part 2 deaths.

As a reminder, major You Season 4 spoilers are ahead.

  1. Malcolm Harding

You. Stephen Hagan as Malcolm in episode 401 of You.

First to go this season? Stephen Hagan’s character Malcolm, aka the dude who introduced Joe to his wealthy, mostly insufferable Season 4 friend group. After taking him to his first Sundry House event in Episode 1, Malcolm escorted an absolutely wasted Joe home at night. When Joe woke the next morning, he found Malcolm’s bloody corpse in his kitchen and had no recollection of killing him. Joe disposed of Malcolm’s body, then received an anonymous text from the alleged killer, who knew all about Joe’s true identity and began blackmailing him.

  2. Simon Soo

You. Aidan Cheng as Simon Soo in episode 401 of You.

While Joe was trying to determine the killer of his friend group, the mysterious murderer claimed a second victim: Aidan Cheng’s character Simon Soo. For a moment, Joe through Simon might be the killer, but the artist was offed at his very own gallery opening with a knife to the chest, just like Malcolm.

  3. Vic The Bodyguard

Sean Pertwee as Vic and Penn Badgley as Joe on 'You'

Our first bodyguard down? Sean Pertwee’s character Vic, who was simply working to protect Kate from creepy killers like Joe! After the Eat The Rich Killer strikes again, Joe takes it upon himself to watch out for Kate and follows her to Malcolm’s crypt in Episode 3. While Joe’s following Kate, Vic is following both of them. Vic finds Malcolm’s ring on Joe, thinks he’s the killer, and the two fight it out. In the end, Joe strangles Vic, buries his body in a grave, and writes a letter of resignation on his behalf to Phoebe.

  4. Gemma Graham-Greene

You. (L to R) Penn Badgley as Joe, Eve Austin as Gemma in episode 404 of You.

In Episode 4, Joe and his “friends” embark on a lavish weekend getaway where Gemma (Eve Austin) publicly accuses Joe of being the Eat The Rich Killer at dinner. Later that night, Joe walks in on Kate sitting beside Gemma’s bloody corpse, knife in hand. Kate swears she’s innocent, so Joe does his best to help her clear the crime scene. But after Roald finds Joe with Gemma’s body, he tries to convince his friends Joe has been the Eat The Rich Killer all along.

  5. Rhys Montrose

You. Ed Speleers as Rhys in episode 406 of You.

Ah, Rhys Montrose. Ed Speleers’ character is undoubtedly the most complex death of the season. And once he’s murdered, everything we think we knew about Season 4, about Joe, and about the Eat The Rich Killer is forever changed. At the end of Season 4, Part 1, Rhys admitts to Joe that he was the killer who’s been offing their friends and anonymously blackmailing him via text. Episode 5 ends with Rhys locking Joe and Roald in a burning basement to die, and them escaping with help from Kate. So Season 4, Part 2 opens with Joe vowing to take Rhys down and Rhys revealing he has Marienne trapped in a cage somewhere in London. In Episode 7, Joe ties Rhys up and tortures him for info, but when Rhys claims he doesn’t know who Joe is, Joe loses control and kills him. Then, an imaginary Rhys appears beside the real Rhys’ dead body, proving Joe is having some sort of psychotic break. Turns out, Joe hallucinated all of his interactions/text messages with Rhys. And Joe — not Rhys — is the infamous murderer who killed Malcolm, Simon, and Gemma.

  6. Adam Pratt

One death Joe doesn’t have on his hands? Lukas Gage’s character, Adam. After realizing he’s broke, Adam proposes to Phoebe and marries her for her money. Kate, Joe, and even Phoebe’s stalker warned Phoebs that Adam was taking advantage of her, but the two finally wed in Episode 9, then Phoebe promptly had a mental breakdown and was committed to a treatment facility. Later in the episode, we learn Adam was killed and Kate’s father is responsible for his death. Twist!

  7. Hugo The Bodyguard

In the Season 4 finale, Joe plans to end his killing spree for good. But after Kate vents to him about her father, he decides to make a pit stop and kill Tom Lockwood (Greg Kinnear) before retiring as a murderer. While Joe is prepping to do away with Tom, Hugo the bodyguard (Craig McGinlay) walks in and attempts to rescue his boss. Joe stabs Hugo in the neck and buries him in a field. Then, he makes it look as though Hugo was in financial crisis, robbed Lockwood, killed him, and vanished.

  8. Tom Lockwood

In the finale, Joe steals Kate’s phone and texts daddy Tom as her, asking him to meet later that night. Joe ambushes Tom, chains him to a chair, then confronts him about controlling Kate’s life. Tom tries to deescalate and talk his way out of the situation, but after killing Hugo, Joe tapes a plastic bag over Tom’s head, which causes him to suffocate to death. Joe then finds Tom’s bank info and frames Hugo for his murder.

  9. Edward

Brad Alexander as Edward in 'You'
    Photo: Netflix

UGH! The most heartbreaking kill of Season 4 is revealed in the finale’s final minutes. After Amy-Leigh Hickman’s Nadia and Brad Alexander’s Edward (aka Eddie) realize Joe’s an obsessive, Nadia breaks into his apartment, finds a box of Rhys’ things, and takes photos of the evidence. Eddie is keeping watch outside, but when Nadia heads to the car he’s nowhere to be found. Instead, Joe corners her, swipes her phone, and deletes the photos. He promises he won’t hurt her, but as she backs away from him she falls over Eddie’s bloody corpse. Joe frames Eddie for Rhys’ murder, kills him, then frames Nadia for Eddie’s murder, which lands Nadia in prison. Of all the chaos that unfolds this season, Nadia and Eddie’s fate — especially after they got the evidence needed to put Joe away — is the most crushing.

  10. Jonathan Moore (But Not Joe Goldberg)

Penn Badgley as Joe in 'You'
    Photo: Netflix

The finale is titled “The Death of Jonathan Moore,” so while Joe Goldberg is very much alive, it’s worth noting that the London professor he lived as this season is gone by the end of the season. After killing Tom and Hugo, Joe jumps off a bridge in hopes of ending his deadly compulsion once and for all, but police rescue him, so he decides to share his true identity (and snippets of his damning past) with Kate. The two vow to keep each other good, take over Kate’s dad’s empire, and head back to New York. Thanks to a cybersecurity team, a squadron of publicists, Cynthia, scrubbed search results, hacked news archives, and a bribe the Madre Linda chief of police, Joe Goldberg is back with a clear name and Jonathan Moore is no mo(o)re. We’d say that imaginary Rhys is gone, too. But thanks to a creepy window reflection of him in the finale’s finale moments, we know he still lives within Joe. Perhaps we’ll see him again in a potential Season 5.

You Season 4 is now streaming on Netflix.
