Amazon Prime Video has committed a real crime in canceling the Alfred Molina-led mystery Three Pines after one season.

On Monday (March 13), showrunner Emilia di Giorlamo posted on Instagram that she was told that Left Bank Pictures, Sony and Prime Video failed to reach a negotiation around a renewal despite all “wanting to bring the show back.”

She wrote, “It was an immense privilege to work with Louise, Alfred and the rest of our talented cast and crew as well as the many Indigenous artists and musicians who made Three Pines so uniquely special.”

Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, who portrayed Isabelle Lacoste in the series, also weighed in on the cancellation. She called the decision “devastating.”

Tailfeathers wrote, “As an Indigenous actor, I never thought I’d have the opportunity to be the leading woman on a #1 show like this. It was huge.”

The actor continued, “Our stories matter and this show demonstrated that audiences, regardless of background, are hungry for Indigenous content.”

A Prime Video spokesman said in a statement obtained by Deadline, “We are proud of the work done on the series and the opportunity to work with great partners.”

Adapted from Louise Penny’s best-selling novels, Three Pines follows an inspector as he investigates a series of murders occurring in a Quebec village. Decider’s Joel Keller wrote in his review that the series “gave viewers an interesting murder case to follow, quirky small-town folks with secrets, and a more serious case that tests its main character’s abilities.”

The one-hour drama premiered December 2 on Prime Video and released two new episodes weekly until the finale on December 23. In addition to Molina and Tailfeathers, the series starred Rossif Sutherland, Sarah Booth, Pierre Simpson, Frédéric-Antoine Guimond and Julian Bailey.
