Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 2 “(I Don’t Want to Go to) Chelsea” introduces a brand new soccer superstar to the Apple TV+ show: Zava (Maxmilian Osinski). According to the show, he’s a world-class striker with a penchant for burning through clubs. Would it make sense to add such an expensive, radioactive diva to the tight-knit team that Ted (Jason Sudeikis) has nurtured over the past few seasons? Saner minds might not think so! But Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) is so desperate to beat her ex-husband Rupert (Anthony Head) on the pitch that she fights to bring Zava to AFC Richmond. And it all culminates in a hilarious scene set in a men’s bathroom.

Spoilers ahead!

The Ted Lasso Season 3 premiere established that although AFC Richmond is back in the Premiere League, pundits predict they’ll finish the season in last place. Adding to the pressure is the fact that Rupert has thrown all his money and support behind a glitzy rival team, West Ham. So when news breaks that Zava is suddenly a free agent, almost all the characters freak out at the chance to nab him. The problem is West Ham and Chelsea also want him. So what’s Rebecca to do? How will she woo Zava to Richmond? By not wooing him at all.

After a tense run-in with Rupert, who is convinced he’s snagged Zava, Rebecca decides to chase Zava into the literal men’s room. While he’s peeing, she gets in his face and berates him: “You are such a fucking chicken shit! I mean if you were great — truly great — you could play anywhere! But instead you choose a club like West Ham because it’s big and shiny and you know they’ll win whether you’re there or not. And you’ll never have to wonder if you’re still as good as you tell everyone you are. But you and I know you’re not. You’re overrated. You’re overpaid. And you eat too much fucking asparagus.”

Rebecca, assuming she’s blown her chance at nabbing Zava, scurries out. It’s not until later that we learn Zava liked her use of reverse psychology when he announces at a press conference that he will go to Richmond.

Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham told Decider recently that she “loved” the scene where Rebecca dressed down Zava. But what possessed Rebecca to do it in the first place?

“I think, one, it’s because, you know, she looks over at Rupert and thinks, ‘Do you know what? I am sick and tired of this. If he can do that, so can I,'” Waddingham said. “Secondly, I think it’s because she’s got to a point in her life where she’s just like, ‘Let’s just get it done.’ She genuinely cares about the team, certainly doesn’t think that he is more important than her boys, and I love the fact that this season I am like, ‘The boys, the boys, the boys. Come on, Ted. When are we going to win again?’ She’s got like a ‘What are you doing with my team?’ You know? And I love that she’s got that fire.”

“Lastly, I don’t think she’s impressed by some dickhead bloke.”

Waddingham went on to say that she loved that Rebecca’s “a bit jaggedy this season.”

“Like, ‘No, I’m not having that.'” she said.

Rebecca might have used unconventional methods to woo Zava to Richmond, but can the superstar striker deliver? Or will he upset the careful balance Ted has built up in the locker room? You’ll have to tune into next week’s all-new episode of Ted Lasso to find out…
