Gunter Nezhoda, who was known for appearing with his son Rene Nezhoda on Storage Wars, died Tuesday (March 21) from lung cancer complications, TMZ reports. He was 67.

Rene revealed in a video shared on social media that his father died in his sleep, just months after being diagnosed with lung cancer in September 2022. Gunter had recently flown to Salt Lake City, Utah, to get emergency surgery, but doctors were unable to help him.

“We thought he was going to fully recover but unfortunately he didn’t,” Rene said about his father.

He added, “He was 67 years old and all the love that you guys have shown him and support, he really appreciated that.”

Gunter lived in Vienna, where he was born in 1956, and later Frankfurt, Germany. He later moved to Las Vegas in 1990.

He held many professions throughout his life outside of his brief appearances on Storage Wars. Gunter was an accomplished photographer whose work appeared in magazines and advertisements. He also played bass for a number of musicians including George Lynch, Pat Travers, Leslie West and more.

Gunter only appeared on seven episodes of Storage Wars between 2015 and 2019, but fans expressed how much they enjoyed him on the show.

“My dad was one of the guys on Storage Wars that never really got any hate, people just loved him and being around him, including the crew,” Rene said. “Everybody loved working with my dad, so I appreciate the support.”

Fans of the show flooded the comments on Rene’s video to show their support for Gunter and his family. “Sorry for your loss, Renee. I loved seeing him on the show. So many memories,” one person tweeted

“I’m so very sorry for your loss, Rene. Gunter was a very very sweet man and will be missed on the show,” another supporter added

Gunter reportedly filmed one more episode that will air in the upcoming season of Storage Wars.
