When Will ‘Shrinking’ Season 2 Premiere on Apple TV+? What We Know

Apple TV+‘s cathartic comedy Shrinking has been a weekly streaming treat since it premiered in January. But now that Season 1 is done, we have no choice but to sob to Phoebe Bridgers’ “I Know the End” for 15 minutes.

Once your phone timer goes off, you’ll likely be wondering if and when Shrinking Season 2 will arrive. Especially after that surprise cliffhanger. Well, we’ve got the answers below, but be warned that spoilers for Shrinking Season 1 lie ahead.

Created by Bill Lawrence, Brett Goldstein, and Jason Segel, Shrinking has received high praise for sharp scripts that let grief and humor co-exist, plus powerful performances from a stacked cast led by Segel, Jessica Williams, and the great Harrison Ford. After its first 10 episodes, it’s clear Shrinking‘s writers and characters still have more stories to tell. So has Apple TV+ greenlit Shrinking Season 2?

Will There Be A Shrinking Season 2 On Apple TV+? Shrinking Renewal Status:

Great news, Shrinking fans: Paul’s fedora will live to see another day, because Apple TV+ officially renewed the series for a second season on March 9 after just seven out of 10 episodes aired.

“We have loved the engaging, touching and hilarious world of Shrinking since the beginning, and it has been wonderful to watch as audiences around the world continue to connect with these big-hearted characters,” Matt Cherniss, Apple TV+’s head of programming said in a press release. “We can’t wait for viewers to experience what the cast and creative team have for season two.”

When Will Shrinking Season 2 Premiere on Apple TV+? What We Know:

Though we don’t know the Shrinking Season 2 premiere date yet, we do know that Bill Lawrence and the writing staff have been hard at work crafting a new batch of scripts for “a few months already.” How do we know this? Because Lawrence is an avid social media user who regularly posts updates to Twitter and Instagram, and for that, we’re grateful. He even posts videos straight from the Shrinking writers’ room to his Instagram Stories, so if you want to stay up-to-date on the show’s status we highly recommend following him at @vdoozer.

After Shrinking was renewed for a second season, Lawrence hopped on Instagram from a hallway to say, “Hey! We’re here at work. Shrinking writers staff. We’re very grateful for the Season 2 pickup. They made me do it out here because I’ve accidentally showed the boards of what we’re doing this year a bunch.” (It’s true. I saw them. But no spoilers, sorry.) Boards or not, we can definitely guess where Season 2 might be headed after that shocking finale. Though as that final scene reminded us, surprises could come at any moment.

As for speculation about when Shrinking Season 2 will premiere on Apple TV+, Season 1 began production in April of 2022, and was released starting on January 27, 2023. Assuming a similar range — and that Harrison Ford’s busy schedule cooperates — it’s possible we could see Shrinking Season 2 released in January of 2024, depending on when Season 2 production starts. We’ll update this piece when we know more.

What Could A Season 2 of Shrinking Look Like?

First things first: Before we recap Shrinking‘s Season 1 finale, thanks to Lawrence’s Twitter we know also that Ted McGinley will be a series regular next season, so you can expect more Derek in the new batch of episodes. (Thank god!)

Season 1 ended with Derek and Liz investing in Sean’s catering business, so we’ll likely see that business grow in Season 2. We can expect Paul and Julie’s relationship to progress. We’ll likely see him keep making an effort to be in his daughter’s life, and of course, we’ll see him continue living with Parkinson’s disease. Brian and Charlie will be newlyweds. We’ll hopefully get to meet Professor Gaby and see her relationship with Jimmy evolve. And speaking of Jimmy, though the finale brought him a sense of closure, he and Alice will still be figuring out life without Tia in Season 2.

Don’t worry, I didn’t forget. (I couldn’t even if I wanted to.) Season 2 has follow up on Season 1’s final “boop!” Grace could argue that Jimmy told her to push Donny off a cliff, because he technically did. But is Donny dead? Are Jimmy’s radical therapy techniques finally coming back to bite him? Will this burn the whole practice down? Will Brian step in to offer legal assistance? We hope so, because everything goes his way!
