Every week, Netflix releases it’s top ten most popular TV shows and movies and this week, the new spy thriller series The Night Agent sits atop the list of most-watched English-language shows on the streaming service. That would be impressive enough considering the show only debuted last Thursday, March 23, but with 168.71 million hours viewed, that number makes the show the biggest series premiere on the platform so far in 2023. By comparison, the second most-watched show this week on Netflix is Shadow and Bone season two, with a mere 55 million hours viewed.

Netflix hasn’t seen numbers like this for a new series since the November, 2022 premiere of Wednesday which opened with 341.23 million hours viewed in its first week. (And it should be pointed out that Wednesday is currently still in the Netflix Top Ten for its seventeenth week.)

The Night Agent was created by Shawn Ryan, the former Navy SEAL and CIA contractor who also co-created shows like The Shield and S.W.A.T. The political thriller stars Gabriel Basso as FBI agent Peter Sutherland, who finds himself on the run and in search of a government mole with access to the President. The series co-stars Luciane Buchanan, Eve Harlow, Hong Chau, and D.B. Woodside.

The show has not been officially renewed yet, but given its strong showing and open-ended finale, there’s a strong case for giving it a second season.

As for the Top Ten Movies on Netflix this week, Luther: The Fallen Sun is currently ranked #1 on the list and has appeared in the top ten for three consecutive weeks.
