Terrifying 9-1-1 Call From Jeremy Renner’s Snowplow Accident Featured in Diane Sawyer Interview: “This Is the Sound of Someone That Was Dying”

Jeremy Renner will open up about the snowplow accident that left him in critical condition in an upcoming ABC News interview with Diane Sawyer. The anticipated special, titled Jeremy Renner: The Diane Sawyer Interview – A Story of Terror, Survival and Triumph, marks the actor’s first interview since the collision, and will include the audio from the 911 call alerting authorities of his severe injuries. 

The Avengers actor was hospitalized at the start of January after he was run over by a seven-ton snowplow while trying to help his nephew. He broke over 30 bones and punctured a lung.

A trailer for the interview showcases Sawyer recounting all of Renner’s injuries: “eight ribs broken in 14 places, right knee, right ankle broken, left leg tibia broken, the left ankle broken, right clavicle broken, right shoulder broken. Face, eye socket, jaw, the mandible broken. Lung collapsed. Pierced from the rib bone, your liver — which sounds terrifying.”

The teaser features a clip of the 911 call, where a person tells emergency responders, “Someone’s been run over by a snowcat, hurry. He’s been crushed.” They also state, “There’s a lot of blood over here. He’s in rough shape.”

As the call continues, Renner can be heard moaning in the background. Those surrounding him support him with affirmations, telling him,“Keep breathing man, keep fighting” and “hang in there, brother.”

A voiceover says, “This is the sound of someone that was dying.”

Before the clip of the call is played, Renner’s nephew tells Saywer, “I just perfectly see him in a pool of blood coming from his head. I ran up to him. I didn’t think he was alive.”

Looking back at the accident, Renner says in the ABC special, “I’d do it again,” and explains that the vehicle was heading towards his nephew.

In the interview, Renner will recall the details of his accident, his time in the hospital and his recovery journey. The special also features interviews with Renner’s family members and the first responders that reported to the scene.

The actor’s latest endeavor, Rennervations, which was filmed before the accident, features him teaming up with experts to reimagine large vehicles as “mind-blowing creations” to serve children and communities in disadvantaged areas. The four-part series premieres April 12 on Disney+.
