After two hit series launches in a row, Prime Video is looking for a three-peat with the premiere of its latest original, the sci-fi series The Power.

The Power is set in a universe not unlike our own, except women hold most of the power thanks to a biological and supernatural breakthrough that leaves teenage girls with extraordinary abilities.

Toni Collette, Auliʻi Cravalho, and John Leguizamo star, with Toheeb Jimoh, Ria Zmitrowicz, Halle Bush, Nico Hiraga, Josh Charles, and Rob Delaney rounding out the large ensemble cast.

The Power premieres on March 31 exclusively on Prime Video. To watch, you’ll need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber. It costs $14.99/month with all of the Prime perks or $8.99/month if all you want is Prime Video. New episodes will premiere every Friday through May 12.

IS THE POWER BASED ON A BOOK?

Yes! The Power is an adaptation of Naomi Alderman’s 2016 novel of the same name.

The Power is a manuscript of an imagined history of an era where teenage girls all over the world gain the ability to electrocute at will. The book charts the ways in which the emerging power creates a turnover in society, from patriarchal to matriarchal.

Specifically, the book follows Allie (Bush), Roxy (Zmitrowicz), Margot (Collette), Jocelyn (Cravalho), and Tunde (Jimoh) as they navigate the new and changing world.

The Power is available to purchase in three formats: paperback, e-book, and audiobook.

You can buy The Power in paperback from Amazon ($19), Barnes and Noble ($17), and Bookshop ($16), where your purchase will support an independent bookstore of your choice.

The e-book of The Power is available from Amazon ($12), and is compatible with the Kindle app on mobile devices and tablets and Amazon’s Kindle e-readers. Our favorite is the Kindle Paperwhite; it has a big, bright screen, and the battery lasts weeks.

If you prefer to listen to your books, The Power is available as an audiobook, too. Narrated by Adjoa Andoh (Bridgerton‘s Lady Danbury), it has an unabridged run time of 12 hours and 5 minutes. You can get the audiobook from Audible and Libro.fm, a platform that allows readers to support independent bookstores. Both Audible and Libro are subscription-based and cost $14.99/month. New users of both platforms can also claim a free audiobook upon subscribing.
