Chris Hemsworth Is Back From the Dead in New ‘Extraction 2’ Trailer

Chris Hemsworth is teaming back up with the Russo brothers for Extraction 2, the blockbuster sequel coming out in June.

Directed by Sam Hargrave, Extraction 2 follows Hemsworth’s Australian mercenary on a quest to rescue a gangster’s family from prison. The sequel takes place nine months after Tyler Rake was pronounced “clinically dead” in the first installment. Now, the mercenary finds himself on another deadly mission.

The new trailer shows Rake rescuing someone from the midst of a prison riot until he’s suddenly struck by memories of his near-death experience from the first movie.

“Tyler, you were clinically dead nine months ago,” a voice tells him over flashbacks of him recovering in the hospital. “But you fought your way back.”

Golshifteh Farahani will be returning as Nik Khan, with Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt also set to co-star.

Joe and Anthony Russo, commonly known as the Russo brothers, co-produced the film alongside Hemsworth, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot and others.

The Russo brothers previously worked with Hemsworth when they directed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, both of which Hargrave also worked on as a stunt coordinator.

The sequel was first announced in May 2020 after Extraction became Netflix’s most watched feature film ever upon its release.

“There was always a simple drive to the story, a balletic execution of action where you take a damaged character who made an egregious mistake in the past and has a shot at redemption which might be fatal,” Joe Russo said at the time. “What was key is that we needed a muscular action director like Sam to be the main creative force in the execution of the action.”

These films are part of a continued partnership between Netflix and the Russo brothers’ production company, AGBO.

This partnership has spawned a number of blockbuster action films, including Netflix’s most expensive movie ever, The Gray Man, starring Chris Evans, Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas.
