Comedian Robin Thede brought the feels on this morning’s episode of The View, emotionally confessing her love for co-host Whoopi Goldberg in a touching — and hilarious — moment. Thede, who created A Black Lady Sketch Show, stopped by today’s episode to promote her series, and paid tribute to Goldberg along the way.

While explaining how she got into comedy in the first place, Thede said one of her biggest influences was sitting right there at the Hot Topics table.

“I’m not gonna cry, but you were the first woman that showed me that Black women can play characters and be funny,” Thede said, choking up as she gestured toward Goldberg.

Covering her face and wiping her eyes, Thede continued, “I talk about this all the time. I hope you don’t think I’m a stalker, ’cause I talk about you constantly in interviews,” before recalling the moment she saw Goldberg’s 1984 one-woman Broadway show, Whoopi Goldberg, on TV.

“It was funny and it was real, and I just had never seen that,” Thede said as she began to tear up once more. “I had never seen that, so thank you. I’ve been waiting my whole life to tell you thank you.”

As the audience applauded, Thede reached into her cleavage, where she had stashed some tissues.

“I said I wasn’t gonna do this!” she said as she pulled a tissue out and dabbed her eyes, noting, “I was prepared.”

Joy Behar quipped, “Whoopi, you’re making more women cry than Barbara Walters!”

Goldberg closed out the segment with heartfelt words for Thede, telling her, “Kids now have you. And that is not just a small thing, that’s a huge thing because you have invited an entire room full of Black women to write comedy. This is unheard of.”

She later shared her own appreciation for her guest, telling Thede, “Thank you.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
