Sarah Shahi, who is known for playing Billie in the Netflix hit series Sex/Life, opened up about her experience on the set of the show’s second season, which was released last month. According to the actress, she did not feel as supported by those involved in the show as she did the first time around.

Shahi made the revelation while speaking on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast. Despite saying she’s a “fan of the show,” there were some things about the second installment that she was “upset” about.

“I’m not going to put it down, but I definitely did not have the support that I did the first season from the people involved in the show,” she said. “It became a much different thing for me, and I’m not afraid to say that.”

Shahi continued, “I struggled with the material. I just felt the thing that it had the first season — I mean, I’m never gonna work for Netflix again now after saying all this, but I can’t lie. And it was definitely a challenge.”

In the show, Shahi’s character — who is married with two kids, living her best white picket fence life — fantasizes about her bad-boy ex-boyfriend Brad, played by her real-life boyfriend Adam Demos. While the first season gave a boatload of steamy sex scenes between the two, Demos is noticeably absent throughout much of Season 2 as they introduce a plot twist that comes between their characters.

“I was bummed that I wasn’t able to work with him as much because I really liked our stories and I like working with him. He was a brilliant scene partner,” Shahi said. “Also, what ended up happening is I was working so much and he was working so little. He’s, like, in 60 seconds of the entire thing. I never saw him.”

Aside from being disappointed that she didn’t get to work with Demos as much, Shahi criticized some of the show’s storylines — including the male nudity — which she said “felt very gimmicky.”

“There were other things that I just felt I couldn’t get behind, and it was just challenging,” she said. “But that’s part of what I do! I’m not always gonna get along or agree with a filmmaker. I’m not always gonna like what I have to do or say. But that’s my job, to make it believable.”

As for whether she thinks Netflix will renew the series for a third season, Shahi believes it’s “all about viewership.” The actress said if it does “astronomically high and is hugely successful, then it’s in their interest to bring it back.”

The first two seasons of Sex/Life are currently streaming on Netflix.
