Jeremy Renner revealed his Marvel co-star Anthony Mackie stayed right by his side as he recovered from his Jan. 1 snowplow accident.

The Avengers actor told Diane Sawyer in his recent tell-all interview for ABC that Mackie “was there at my bedside” during his recovery process. Renner sustained over 30 injuries, including a number of broken bones and a collapsed lung, after he was crushed by a 14,000-pound snowplow.

Sawyer had asked him what was “the best thing” anyone had said to him during his journey.

“It’s the actions,” he responded, later adding, “Mackie was there at my bedside in Reno.”

Renner and Mackie starred together in the Academy Award-winning movie The Hurt Locker and in multiple Marvel films where they played Avengers Hawkeye and Falcon.

But Mackie isn’t the only Marvel actor to show his support for Renner.

“That’s one tough mf’er. Has anyone even checked on the snowcat???” Captain America star Chris Evans jokingly tweeted after Renner shared an update from the hospital. “Sending so much love.”

Renner responded, “Love you brother…. I did check on the snow cat , she needs fuel.”

Evangeline Lilly has also spoken about visiting him while he was recovering from the accident. “I walked in his house and got chicken skin, because I was like, ‘Why are you mobile? Why are you mobile? What’s happening?'” she told Access. “I expected to sit at his bedside and hold his hand while he moaned and groaned in pain and wasn’t able to move.”

“He was wheeling himself around, laughing with his friends. It’s a miracle, a straight-up miracle,” Lilly recalled.

Despite his extensive injuries, Renner appeared to be in good spirits as he spoke to Sawyer in the candid interview. He seemed hopeful about returning to his career as an action movie star. Starring in the Marvel films appeared to have such an impact on the actor that he even has an Avengers tattoo, which he showed Sawyer during the interview.

“I’ve lost a lot of flesh and bone in this experience, but I’ve been refueled and refilled with love and titanium,” he said.
