Elizabeth Hubbard, Emmy Nominee for ‘As the World Turns,’ Dead at 89

As the World Turns star Elizabeth Hubbard has died at 89.

Hubbard’s death was confirmed in a Facebook post from her son, Jeremy Bennett, who wrote, “I’m sorry to say with a broken heart my mum passed over the weekend.”

He continued, “Thank you for being an unmovable rock that guided me through life. I will try to honour your memory for as long as I live.”

Bennett also shared an image of Hubbard in a red dress.

Hubbard has been a daytime staple since her career launched in 1962. The actor portrayed the classy doctor and divorcée, Dr. Althea Davis, in The Doctors, which earned her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1972. 

Hubbard went on to earn six Emmy nominations for her role as no-nonsense businesswoman Lucinda Walsh in As the World Turns. She played the character from 1984 until the show concluded in 2010.

Hubbard made her acting debut in 1962 television series Guiding Light. Between her two major roles, she starred in One Life to Live as a series regular for one year, portraying Estelle Chadwick. 

As for her time on the big screen, Hubbard starred in the 1979 drama The Bell Jar — based on Slyvia Plath’s novel of the same name — and Robert Redford’s Ordinary People. She also starred in the 2000 teen drama Center Stage, alongside Zoe Saldana, Peter Gallagher and Donna Murphy.

Her final role was playing Eva Montgomery in the soap opera web series Anacostia. The series premiered on YouTube before being picked up by Prime Video. She starred in nine episodes and received an Emmy nomination for her performance.
