Jimmy Kimmel gave Jeremy Renner a talking-to for going to a theme park during his recovery from his life-threatening snowplow accident, which left him in critical condition on New Year’s Day.

On Monday (April 10), Renner appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to answer questions about his recent collision and his new four-part Disney+ series Rennervations.

The show follows Renner as he teams up with experts to reimagine large vehicles as “mind-blowing creations” to serve children and communities in disadvantaged areas.

Speaking about the series, Renner said, “I’ll do anything for a kid. I believe it is a birthright to have opportunities in life. They’re the future of our planet. I’ll go to the nth degree to give them opportunities.”

Kimmel joked, “You got in front of a snowplow for one of them,” referring to the accident which occurred because a seven-ton snowplow was heading in the direction of Renner’s nephew.

As a detour, Kimmel added, “Speaking of doing things for kids, you were at Magic Mountain this weekend.” Renner explained that it was his daughter’s spring break and she had just turned 10, so he treated her and her friends and cousins to the trip.

Kimmel asked, “Now, do doctors recommend Six Flags?” to which Renner responded, “I didn’t tell them.” The two then diverted to a clip of Renner jamming out to a boombox while riding an electric scooter around the theme park.

“Jeremy, you’re making a mockery of this injury, you really are!” exclaimed Kimmel. “It’s like you’re taunting God. You’re, like, threatening him, ‘Try it again!’” Renner responded earnestly, saying, “I promise you, I’m in tons of pain. I promise you.”

He explained that he went on rides during the family-filled trip: “I go by the principle, if it hurts, I’ll stop, but if it doesn’t hurt, I’ll give it a go, I’ll try it. So, I did everything that didn’t hurt and I had a great time. More importantly, my daughter and the kids did.”

Later, he stated that the “best part” of his snowplow accident is that his calendar is now “free for the rest of the year,” and that he quit smoking due to being preoccupied with recovery.

During the accident, Renner broke over 30 bones and punctured a lung. During his recent ABC interview with Diane Sawyer, she recounted his injuries, saying the actor had “eight ribs broken in 14 places, right knee, right ankle broken, left leg tibia broken, the left ankle broken, right clavicle broken, right shoulder broken. Face, eye socket, jaw, the mandible broken. Lung collapsed.”

Sawyer added, “Pierced from the rib bone, your liver — which sounds terrifying.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC. Watch Jeremy Renner’s full appearance in the video above.
