Ever since Dusty (Chris O’Dowd) and Cass (Gabrielle Dennis) used the MORPHO machine to uncover their life potentials in  Apple TV+‘s The Big Door Prize, their marriage has been on the rocks. Between Dusty housing hot wings and getting half of a tattoo and Cass revealing she’s not obsessed with Puffins, there’s been a visible disconnect between the couple at the center of David West Read’s sci-fi dramedy inspired by M.O. Walsh’s 2020 novel. But a sneak peek at Episode 5, “Trina,” reveals the two may finally be on the same page again. (By that, we obviously mean they’re both open to having a threesome.)

The official description for Episode 5, which premieres Wednesday, April 12, notes that “Dusty and Cass visit a themed hotel for a romantic getaway.” But Decider’s exclusive look at the episode shows they’re not spicing up their marriage alone on that romantic getaway.

In the clip shown above, we see Dusty and Cass cramped in a hotel room closet discussing a potential threesome in hushed tones. “OK, so you know what’s happening, right? This is a threesome. This is how a threesome starts,” a flustered Dusty says. “Oh, I know what’s happening,” Cass replies. “How do you feel about it?”

Cass reminds Dusty he once claimed a threesome wouldn’t appeal to him, so he explains, “I’m appealed. I’m appealed. I’m appealed. I’m appealed to find out how you feel about it, you know? Is this something that you’ve — is this something that you’ve wanted? Cause I want you to be able to share your desires with me darlin’.”

After agreeing to share their secret desires on the count of three — then promptly chickening out — Dusty asks Cass to make the call. “I wasn’t expecting that to happen,” she says. “But we have been talking about broadening our horizons, right? And this is something we’d be doing together.”

Just then, the camera reveals a character (played by Emily Topper) who’s been patiently waiting in the hotel room for Dusty and Cass’ decision. While seated on what appears to be a bottom bunk in a nautical-themed hotel (we have so many questions) she calls out, “Look, I’m good either way!” And Dusty and Cass emerge from the closet and excitedly announce they’re down to make their duo a trio for the night. That excitement is instantly dulled when Topper’s character exclaims, “Yes! Yay! I can finally cross having a threesome with an older couple off my list.” Ouch.

So what prompted Cass and Dusty’s romantic getaway? Why are they in a room with a bunk bed? Is this threesome proposition at all MORPHO related? And will they actually go through with it? All will be revealed in Episode 5 of The Big Door Prize, premiering on Wednesday, April 12.
