Guillermo Rodriguez, Jimmy‘s sidekick on Kimmel Live, is under fire after his two rescue dogs ended up at a local shelter.

The star has apologized, stating that the action was the result of a miscommunication with his stepsister.

SoCal dog rescue group Mutt Scouts told TMZ that Guillermo adopted the two chihuahuas (named Chase and Rey) back in 2021. He was excited about adding the two puppies to his family and posted pics of them on Instagram soon after getting them.

Mutt Scouts, however, says they were recently notified by a Los Angeles animal shelter that the dogs were surrendered to them by an unnamed woman. The microchipped pups were registered to Mutt Scouts prior to Guillermo adopting them.

TMZ obtained a copy of the contract Guillermo signed with the agency before adopting them which says the rescue would be his first point of contact to help find the dogs a new home if he was no longer able to take care of them.

Mutt Scouts called out Guillermo on social media this week and some Kimmel fans noticed that Guillermo’s past post with the dogs was deleted from his page.

Guillermo says the drama began when he was asked to care for his grandmother’s large dog as she’s battling dementia. At the same time, he went in for knee surgery, so his stepsister was tasked with watching Chase, Rey and his grandma’s big dog.

He says his stepsister panicked the big dog was going to harm the two chihuahuas and made a quick decision to take them to the shelter. Guillermo says he immediately told her she’d made a big mistake once he found out. He added that he knew they should have gone to Mutt Scouts and contacted the group on Friday to say he “was sorry from the bottom of his heart.”
