Over a decade after the franchise ended its box office domination, the Twilight book series is getting a television adaptation.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources say a television adaptation of the bestselling fantasy series is in early development with no network or writers attached just yet. Lionsgate reportedly plans to find a writer before the studio shops it around.

Author Stephenie Meyer, who also co-wrote the scripts for the series’ five film adaptations, is expected to be involved in the rumored series.

Wyck Godfrey, one of the original movie producers, is attached to executive produce the film. Godfrey will also be joined by Erik Feig, who bought the rights for the book series during his time at Summit Entertainment.

Meyer’s bestselling novels were first adapted to film in the hit franchise The Twilight Saga, which catapulted its leads Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner to fame. The five-movie series grossed over $3 billion in the box office during its reign in the early 2010s.

The move to revamp the franchise to the small screen follows just weeks after Max announced it is creating a Harry Potter television series based on the popular JK Rowling novels.

Twilight fans online have already begun to voice concerns over casting decisions and whether the show will be able to capture the movie’s tone.

The television adaptation is being spearheaded by Lionsgate Television.
