Cheer breakout star La’Darius Marshall has been suspended by cheerleading’s governing organizations for currently undisclosed reasons.

USA Today reports the cheerleader was added to a list of banned or suspended athletes by USA Cheer and the U.S. All Star Federation (USASF.) Though it is still unclear what led to his suspension, an investigation is still pending.

“They have investigative jurisdiction and placed the individual in question on the temporary ineligible list,” USA Cheer Executive Director Lauri Harris said in an email. She claims the report was received by the U.S. All Star Federation.

According to USA Cheer’s ineligibility list, Marshall is listed as “ineligible pending investigation” for “member policy violation related to athlete protection.”

“Membership in the U.S. All Star Federation (USASF) is a privilege that can be restricted, temporarily or permanently denied, or withdrawn at any time when a person’s conduct is determined to be inconsistent with the best interests of All Star and the athletes it serves,” USASF’s website states.

Marshall was reportedly removed from Cheer Athletics’ roster “immediately” after the company learned of his “eligibility loss.” He had shared videos of him at the Cheer Athletics gym on social media the day news of his suspension broke.

Last summer, Marshall’s fellow Cheer co-star Jerry Harris was sentenced to 12 years in prison after being charged with sex crimes. Harris was also ordered to serve eight years of supervised release after completing his sentence.

The cheer governing bodies have ramped up their suspension practices recently after a USA Today investigation pointed out the “inadequate” protections provided to athletes.

Though the nature of Marshall’s suspension is still unclear, USA Today notes USASF’s protective policies span emotional, sexual, and physical misconduct.
