Full House wasn’t always fun and games. John Stamos recently revealed that he had Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen fired from the long-running sitcom because they wouldn’t stop crying as child actors.

While making an appearance on Josh Peck’s Good Guys podcast, Stamos recalled filming the popular ABC program with the Olsen twins.

First, Stamos didn’t exactly hide his diva-like attitude by telling his former Grandfathered co-star that he almost didn’t do Full House because it felt like a “kid show.”

Stamos stated that during one of the early reads, Jodie Sweetin — who played Stephanie Tanner on the show — was getting the “biggest laughs” in the room and his lines weren’t being heard.

Then, the Jesse Katsopolis actor launched into a story about how he didn’t get along with the Olsens. They were 11 months old at the time and sharing the role of Michelle Tanner. Stamos recalled filming a scene in the pilot where he and Dave Coulier, who played Joey Gladstone, were meant to be babysitting Michelle.

“Joey and I were changing the baby,” he explained. “We’re carrying the baby downstairs and I was holding her in the armpits, and Dave was holding her little feet. We take her in the kitchen and we hose her down, and we put a fan and wrapped her up in paper towels.”

Stamos said, “She was screaming. Both of them. They wanted to be anywhere else but there and so did I.”

“Because they were 11 months old,” Peck quipped.

Stamos continued, “They kept switching this one. This one’s not gonna cry.”

He said that he “couldn’t deal with it” and kept saying, “This is not going to work, guys.” Eventually, he told the show to “Get rid of them.” The Olsens were then replaced by two red-headed girls, who Stamos said weren’t attractive. “I’m sure their parents loved them and thought they were attractive,” he added.

But after “only a few days,” Stamos missed the Olsen twins and they decided to have them return to the show, where they stayed for all eight seasons from 1987 to 1995.

“I said, ‘Bring the Olsens back, these kids are terrible. It was a day or something, we tried the other kids, it didn’t work,” he said.
