Don’t call Patti LuPone a Marvelite just yet, as she’s still trying to figure out what exactly she’s gotten herself into with the MCU.

Marvel’s new lady shared in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that she still isn’t acquainted with the popular franchise, despite being cast in the upcoming Disney+ WandaVision sequel, Agatha: Coven of Chaos

Speaking about Marvel, the stage and screen actor said, “I’m still not familiar with it.” And when it came to studying for the new role, she added, “I had to watch WandaVision twice to figure it out.”

Despite the confusing twists and turns of the franchise — which includes 31 movies and a growing catalog of television shows — LuPone is “having a blast.” “

“It’s a wonderful group of women, plus a phenomenal crew,” she said. “I mean, the design on this piece is extraordinary. Jac Schaeffer is so talented, she’s the creator of WandaVision and now Coven of Chaos, and it’s an extraordinary cast of women.”

In April, LuPone revealed details about her upcoming role on The View. “Well it’s a coven of witches, and I play Lilia Calderu, who apparently is in the Marvel world,” she said.

The Broadway star continued, “I researched her and she’s hot! She’s really hot! She’s got a great body, raven hair.” Lupone went on to tell the co-hosts that she “didn’t know anything” about the franchise and was shocked to find out that there were witches in “the Marvel world.”

Coven of Chaos is set to star Kathryn Hahn as the eponymous character, alongside Ali Ahn, Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke and Emma Caulfield Ford — the latter is reprising her role of Dottie from the predecessor.

LuPone isn’t the first star to join Marvel without being familiar with its lengthy history. Nicolas Cage expressed a similar oblivion when cast as Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder, telling Total Film, “People would go, ‘Oh, look at this! He’s entered the MCU!’ And I’d go, ‘I’ve done what? I haven’t entered shit, thank you very much.’ I’m like, ‘The MCU?’ I had to ask what that was.”

Additionally, Gwyneth Paltrow has long publicized her selective amnesia about her past Marvel roles, once telling Jon Favreau on an episode of his Netflix series, The Chef Show, that she forgot she was in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
