Pete Davidson’s new semi-autobiographical comedy Bupkis is now streaming on Peacock. The buzzy series follows the former Saturday Night Live star as he copes with the complexities of fame while dealing with his eccentric group of family and friends. The cast is a theatrical who’s who, with Edie Falco portraying Davidson’s mom and Joe Pesci playing his grandfather.

Early reviews for the show have been mixed, with Bupkis currently sitting at a respectable 69% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. I’ve seen the first four episodes, and while the inconsistent tone might not be for everyone — the series wildly vacillates between surreal humor and tender moments of genuine sentimentality — it’s worth checking out if you’re a fan of Davidson’s comedy. The first four installments deliver a hodgepodge of memorable moments, but the scene that’ll leave your jaw agape takes place in the cold open of the series premiere.

Bupkis begins with Davidson googling himself (not a metaphor) before visiting an adult website to, well, google himself (a metaphor). Pete, who’s wearing a virtual reality headset, embarks on an immersive first-person masturbation experience while in the privacy of his basement (well, relative privacy; a mailman watches from the virtual window). At the same time, Pete’s mom is preparing to drop off a load of laundry.

You know where this is going… but there’s a twist.

Pete’s mom walks in on him and the requisite awkwardness ensues, but that’s not the end of the story. Davidson’s mom inadvertently interrupts Pete during his… let’s go with erotic crescendo. The result? Pete ejaculates on his mother.

Well… it’s certainly a memorable way to start a show! All eight episodes of Bupkis are now streaming on Peacock.
