Amazon‘s Lord Of The Rings series, The Rings Of Power, will continue filming despite the ongoing writers’ strike. Executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will not be present on set.
The show reportedly has just 19 days left of filming, according to Variety, however Payne, McKay and other writer-producers are prohibited from taking part in any writing-based activities including set decisions during the strike per WGA rules.
Non-writing producer Lindsey Weber as well as directors Charlotte Brändström, Sanaa Hamri and Louise Hooper, in addition to crew members, will instead lead the production for the UK-based shoot.
Multiple units have been reportedly filming on Rings Of Power during the strike, including night shoots. Payne and McKay laid out a plan for production during the strike in advance with fellow producers, directors and crew members, so that there would be no interruptions caused by their absence.
A fire broke out on the set of the show last month, resulting in emergency services being called. Smoke was seen emerging from the Bray Studios in Windsor, after an electrical fire broke out in a warehouse. Filming was temporarily suspended as a precaution, however, cast and crew did not have to evacuate.
Season 2 of the fantasy series, which is based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, is expected to stream in 2024.
