Drew Barrymore cringed over her three divorces while bonding with actress Kate Bosworth on this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.

Bosworth — who is now engaged to Barrymore’s ex Justin Long — was previously married to film director Michael Polish from 2013 to 2021. She opened up to the talk show host about the act of “letting go” amid her difficult divorce.

“For someone who really doesn’t want to fail at things and wants to be so determined and disciplined, the idea of failing a marriage was so heartbreaking,” she admitted. “It’s still hard to think about.”

Bosworth continued, “Ultimately that experience — the process of understanding that, to me, it became not failure but it became the completion of a chapter. And understanding that that’s really what life is.”

Barrymore confessed that she’s also learning to let go, adding that she has “held on white-knuckle, monkey-grip tight” so often in her life.

“I’ve been married three times,” she said whilst wincing to the camera. “That’s why I’m like, ‘I gotta either be like Liz Taylor and just keep going and be awesome. Or I gotta call it for the rest of my life.’”

Barrymore was married to bar owner Jeremy Thomas in 1994 before filing for divorce less than two months later. She then wed comedian Tom Green in 2001 before the pair split in 2002. Her marriage to her third husband Will Kopelman, with whom she shares two children, lasted from 2012 to 2016.

So she’s still a handful of marriages away from reaching the Hollywood icon’s total number of eight husbands.

When she asked Bosworth, “Why does it break us women so much to fail in a relationship?” the Blue Crush star replied, “I don’t think anyone goes into a marriage and thinks it’s going to be temporary. I certainly didn’t. That wasn’t even an option.”

Bosworth added, “You and I have a very similar quest to align ourselves with the courage that it takes to be vulnerable. I certainly see that in you in your show.”
