‘61st Street’ Picked Up By The CW After AMC Cancellation

In a rare move, The CW has picked up 61st Street following its cancellation at AMC.

Both seasons of the drama series has been acquired by the network. Starring Courtney B. Vance as an attorney who represents a high school athlete (Tosin Cole) who fell head first into Chicago’s corrupt criminal justice system.

It was created by Peter Moffat (The Night Of, Your Honor), who also executive produces alongside J. David Shanks, Michael B. Jordan (via has Outlier Society banner), Alana Mayo, Jeff Freilich and Hilary Salmon.

According to Deadline, AMC had originally ordered two seasons of the series and aired the first installment in the spring of 2022. Even though the second season was already being finished, AMC opted not to move forward as part of its ongoing cost-cutting measures.

The first season of 61st Street is now set to air on The CW this coming fall and Season 2 will air in 2024.

“There was a lot of love and hard work that went into making 61st Street,” said Vance in a statement. “I’m thrilled that The CW has enthusiastically given all 16 episodes of 61st Street a network home. With The CW, I’m confident that we will engage a universe of viewers who will celebrate the series with us. My cast, crew and I can’t wait.”

Vance and featuring an incredibly talented ensemble cast and creatively brilliant team of producers. We are proud The CW is now the broadcast home of 61st Street and cannot wait to introduce this series to a whole new audience.”

All American and Walker are the only two CW original shows that have been renewed for the 2023-24 seasons, with decisions yet to be made on All American: Homecoming, Gotham Knights and Superman & Lois. The network is reportedly searching for inexpensive acquisitions and unscripted content to help round out its schedule.
