The View sounded off on sweatshirts and shorts this morning as they dissected Sen. John Fetterman‘s unique style. The politician, who represents Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate, has been making waves on the floor as he chooses to sport hoodies instead of a suit and tie.

While Fetterman has been slammed by politicians on the right for his chill dress code, The View stood behind him and his right to rock sweats — well, nearly all of them, anyway. Alyssa Farah Griffin spoke up to chide Fetterman for his outfits, pointing out that he has the money to buy a suit and that this sort of ultra-casual look would never work for a woman in the Senate.

“I thought it was charming when he campaigned and wore it,” Griffin said, referring to Fetterman’s classic look, before adding, “But it’s the Senate and I think there should be some level of decorum.”

She continued, “Imagine if a woman did this … people would be losing their minds.”

Sara Haines hopped in to side with Griffin, saying she knows “times have changed,” but she, too, is looking for a little “decorum.”

While Haines said she is “starving for a moment that looks like the old times,” she didn’t find many allies at the table. Sunny Hostin said she found Fetterman’s “everyman” fashion to be “actually quite endearing,” while Whoopi Goldberg was firmly of the mind that Fetterman is not being “disrespectful” with his style, insisting to the panel, “This is who he is.”

Griffin wasn’t swayed.

“He is reportedly a millionaire,” she countered. “It’s not like this is a guy who can’t afford a Jos. A Bank suit.”

Goldberg was ready to fire back, replying, “It has nothing to do with money. It has to do with comfort! I like being comfortable, he wants to be comfortable,” before telling Griffin she can’t “equate” money with style.

Griffin asked the panel to hear her out, replying, “this is a pretty casual show. If tomorrow I came out in shorts and a hoodie, people would be like, ‘Is everything okay with Alyssa?'”

Goldberg retorted, “If I do it, nobody cares,” but Haines replied, “not any of us are Whoopi Goldberg,” while Goldberg shot back, “no, but that’s the point!”

And she’s not wrong — Goldberg is often the only one sporting Crocs at the table, but hey, after 16 years, she’s certainly earned the right.
