Get ready to kick off your summer streaming season with the American Gladiators. Decider can exclusively reveal that the ’90s icons are coming to Netflix in Muscles & Mayhem: An Unauthorized Story of American Gladiators, a bold new docuseries that will take viewers behind the scenes of the hit competition series.
The series will definitely be of interest to all the ’90s kids who grew up watching the action-packed series and marveling at the prowess of the colorful lineup of larger-than-life gladiators. Debuting in 1989, American Gladiators put athletic average Joes up against a cast of singularly monikered IRL superheroes in events like Assault, Joust, Hang Tough, Powerball, and more. The series ran for seven seasons, spawning a merchandising line that included apparel and action figures before ending in 1996.
Here’s the official synopsis for the upcoming Netflix docuseries:
Muscles & Mayhem: An Unauthorized Story of American Gladiators chronicles the meteoric rise, dramatic fall, and gripping behind-the-scenes stories of one of the biggest spectacles on television during the height of the ’90s. Told first hand from the stars who lived through it, this five part series reveals untold stories of the iconic American Gladiators’ triumph, turmoil, and ultimate price of fame.
Muscles & Mayhem will feature interviews with ex-Gladiators Nitro (Dan Clark), Storm (Debbie Clark), Diamond (Erika Andersch Bunker), Laser (Jim Kalafat), Ice (Lori Fetrick), Zap (Raye Olson), Blaze (Shari E Pendleton Mitchell), Sky (Shirley Eson-Korito), and Tower (Steve Hennebery).
