Even though Jeremy Strong has stated that he is not a Method actor, he is often labeled as such due to his intensity and commitment to his craft. There have been many examples of how he prepares for his performance as Kendall Roy on Succession, the multi-faceted, brooding, rap-loving scion of the Waystar-Royco empire, but perhaps none are as funny as the story that Saturday Night Live actor Bowen Yang revealed recently on the podcast he co-hosts with Matt Rogers, Las Culturistas.

Yang, who also co-stars on the Comedy Central show Awkwafina is Nora From Queens, explained that that show is filmed at the same studio where Succession is shot.

“The Nora From Queens production office was pretty close to the Succession stages and their production office, and as we famously know, Jeremy Strong is a Method actor. At one point, Jeremy walks into the Nora From Queens production office and says, ‘Excuse me, do you know where the bathroom is?’ and then someone in the office is like, ‘Yeah, it’s just down the hall to the left.’ He goes, ‘Thank you so much’ and he leaves,” Yang said.

“So Jeremy leaves. Ten minutes pass, and a P.A. from Succession comes into the office and goes, ‘Hi, was Jeremy just in here?’ and they were like, ‘Yeah, he was — he went to the bathroom’ and then this PA goes, ‘Did he ask where it was? Did he come here to ask you where the bathroom was?’ They were like, ‘Yeah, why?’ and the P.A. says, ‘He has a scene today where he has to ask someone where the bathroom is.’”

“I think that is Method to such a ridiculous degree that he must be in on the joke,” Yang said.

Listen, let’s cut Strong some slack: Kendall Roy’s father Logan died in a bathroom, it makes sense that he’d need some time to be comfortable talking about a place that holds so much trauma for him.
