Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino’s popular period dramedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has been a defining series for Prime Video since its 2017 premiere. But after five ambitious seasons, has Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) officially taken her final bow?

If you’ve made it to the end credits of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5, Episode 9, “Four Minutes,” you’re likely wondering if you’ve seen the last of Midge and Susie’s (Alex Borstein) story or if the Palladinos have more stand-up shenanigans in store.

Curious if The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5 finale will also serve as the series finale? Or if there will be a Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 6 down the line? Here’s everything we know about the future of the series and a new Sherman-Palladino Prime Video project that Maisel fans won’t want to miss.

Will There Be A Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 6 On Prime Video?

Unfortunately for die-hard Maisel fans, the series is set to end with Season 5. That means Season 5, Episode 9 will serve as the series finale and the show won’t return for Season 6. Though it may be hard for fans to say goodbye, the Palladinos felt like this was time is right to wrap their story for quite a while.

“We want to make sure that like everybody walked away from this feeling fulfilled and that their characters got what was coming to them,” Sherman-Palladino told The Hollywood Reporter back in April. “Then, we throw up a few other little surprises that we had been talking about and toying with if we went longer, and we thought, ‘Well, we’re not. Let’s yank those back and put them in here so that everybody is in the pool.'”

“We knew exactly where we wanted to end,” Daniel Palladino added. “And we just sort of like knew that these are our last markers that we wanted to hit towards the ending that we knew was going to be the ending from the very beginning.”

How Does The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel End? Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Borstein Reflect On The Final Scene Of The Series

Now that we know no new Maisel episodes are on the horizon, how did the series end? You can read Decider’s full finale recap for a detailed breakdown of all the major scenes (from Midge’s big break to an emotional Lenny Bruce flashback), but stars Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Borstein broke the final episode of the series — which features Midge and Susie apart in distance but watching an episode of Jeopardy over the phone together in the year 2005 — down for Decider.

“We couldn’t have dreamt it up,” Brosnahan said over Zoom when asked about The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel‘s ending. “We were so surprised when we read the final script.”

“In some ways it was hard not being in the same room with Rachel shooting that. In some ways it was so hard to not have the characters side by side on a couch,” Borstein explained. “But it also feels right, you know? Amy wrote where she felt that the trajectory would lead these two, and but I’m very eager to see how it feels when you watch it, how it plays to know what the music is like under it. How they edited it, how they cut it.”

“I think there was a Jeopardy rights issue for a minute. So they were definitely tweaking and playing up until the end,” Brosnahan laughed. “It just feels so fitting that they end together, but apart, you know? They’re still there for each other. They’re still the primary love story; the center of the show. They’ve also had their own lives and their own pasts, but even being on the other side of the country can never take away this special bond that they have. And that they end laughing…”

How Many Episodes Are In The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5?

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel‘s fifth and final season consists of nine episodes. The season premiered on April 14, 2023 with the finale airing on May 26. Though the future doesn’t hold any new episodes, all five seasons of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel are currently streaming on Prime Video for all your rewatch needs.

What’s Next For the Palladinos (And Luke Kirby)?

If you’re already missing the Palladino magic on Prime Video, fear not! Ahead of Maisel‘s series finale, Prime Video announced a two-season, straight-to-series order for Étoile, a new show from the Palladino duo that stars — wait for it — Maisel‘s own Luke Kirby (and Maisel‘s own Gideon Glick)! Alongside the Maisel alum, Camille Cottin, Simon Callow, Lou de Laâge, and David Alvarez will star in the series set in New York City and Paris that “follows the dancers and artistic staff of two world-renowned ballet companies, as they embark on an ambitious gambit to save their stories institutions by swapping their most talented stars.”

“Amy and Dan are brilliant creators of remarkable and enduring characters and one-of-a-kind storytelling,” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon and MGM Studios said in a statement. “We’re incredibly excited for Étoile, as we have no doubt Amy, Dan, and their team will continue to produce incredibly and impactful event television…”

“Well, guess that plan for early retirement will have to wait,” the Palladinos said. “Instead we’ve decided to embark on an international journey with an unbelievable group of players and the most talented ballet dancers in the world. We will sleep when we’re dead.”

True Palladino fans are likely thinking Étoile sounds a bit like Bunheads 2.0, and honestly? We should be so lucky. We’ve already got some Maisel stars lined up for the series, and knowing the Palladinos, we just might see some more Gilmore Girls cameos down the line.

A premiere date for the series has yet to be announced, but we’ll update this article when we learn more information.
