The Succession finale set a new ratings record for the Emmy Award-winning series after it aired its final episode ever this weekend.

According to Warner Bros. Discovery, Succession drew 2.9 million viewers during its premiere on Sunday (May 28), breaking the show’s previous record that was also set this season.

The company states that this is a 68 percent improvement since the Season 3 finale, which aired in October 2021. This season also saw an increase of 1.5 million viewers, resulting in an average of 8.7 million viewers across Season 4.

Prior to this, Variety reports that Season 4 opened to 2.3 million viewers, but swiftly reached new heights with Episodes 4 and 5, which both reached 2.6 million viewers.

The press release states these numbers represent viewers across Max and linear telecasts.

The highly anticipated series finale marked the official end of HBO’s corporate drama. Though it ended on a low note (depending who you ask), HBO has already confirmed that there is no hope for a Succession spinoff series, no matter what creator Jesse Armstrong has said.

On another note, the series finale was also followed by the series finale of Barry, which drew 700,000 viewers across streaming and telecasts.

HBO reports that this was a 13 percent increase from the Season 3 finale.

Both Barry and Succession can be streamed in full on Max. But if you’re looking for something new to watch on Sunday evenings, there is always The Idol.
