Paramount+ series Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies just aired its Season 1 finale on June 1, but one fan has just noticed something peculiar about one of the lead male characters in the seventh episode.

While this hasn’t been confirmed by the series, platform or actor himself, it would appear that Johnathan Nieves may have exited the series at that point and the show’s editors blatantly photoshopped a still image of his face onto an obvious double for multiple shots.

Thanks to one Twitter user, you can watch one of the clips below:

Following the above moment, a fight breaks out between the two male leads in the show and Nieves’ character Richie is thrown in jail and then sent to military school. Every shot of him after this scene is from behind.

The series, created by Annabel Oakes, first aired in April 2023 and ran for 10 total episodes. It has not yet been renewed for a second season.

The musical rom-com takes place four years before the events of the Grease movie. It follows four female students at Rydell High School who become the founding members of a group that identifies as the “Pink Ladies.” In addition to Nieves it stars Marisa Davila, Cheyenne Isabel Wells, Ari Notartomaso, Tricia Fukuhara, Shanel Bailey, Madison Thompson, Jason Schmidt, Maxwell Whittington-Cooper, and Jackie Hoffman.

Davila recently spoke to ComicBook.com and shared that she’s heard “positive” things about the show’s future and she’s “hopeful” that it will be renewed for a second season, but she still doesn’t know for sure.
