As soon as My Fault (Culpa Mía) debuted on Amazon Prime Video, viewers quickly realized that they couldn’t get enough of the steamy Spanish romance!

Based on the Wattpad story of the same name, which was later expanded into a three-part book series published by Penguin Random House, My Fault follows the story of Noah (Nicole Wallace) and her forbidden romance with her wealthy step brother, Nick (Gabriel Guevara).

When Noah’s mother (Marta Hazas) marries Nick’s billionaire father (Iván Sánchez), Noah is forced to leave her town, school, boyfriend and friends behind and move to Los Angeles, California. As soon as she arrives, the 17-year-old is quickly taken out of her comfort zone and thrown into a lifestyle of lavish parties and rich kids, which includes her step brother, Nick.

While Nick appears to be a model son, he is so much more than what meets the eye. In reality, he lives a secret double life consisting of fighting, gambling and illegal car racing, which is everything that Noah has tried to avoid throughout her life.

In an intriguing turn of events, Nick’s “bad boy” traits are exactly what Noah finds herself attracted to, pulling the duo closer and closer together, ultimately leading to the step siblings falling in love with one another (in secret, of course).

With a captivating plot and strong Spanish themes throughout the duration of the film, My Fault kept us on the edge of our couch for two hours straight, leaving us yearning for more as soon as the credits rolled.

Fortunately, the Decider team compiled a list of seven films that draw similarities to My Fault, leaving you with even more lovey-dovey movies to add to your watchlist.

  1. Sorry If I Call You Love (Perdona Si Te Llamo Amor)

Based on the novel of the same name by Federico Moccia, Sorry If I Call You Love serves as the third Spanish adaptation of Moccia’s teen-focused novels, capturing a forbidden romance just like we see in My Fault.

The film follows a tall, dark and handsome advertising executive named Alex (Daniele Liotti) who faces rejection when he proposes to his beloved girlfriend, Elena (Irene Montala). Shortly after his devastating breakup, Alex meets a charming student named Niki (Paloma Bloyd), ultimately sparking an unexpected romance that is sure to captivate all viewers.

Noah and Nick’s relationship in My Fault draws similarities to Niki and Alex’s relationship in Sorry If I Call You Love, simply because of the taboo nature of each romance. While Noah and Nick’s relationship is controversial due to the fact that they are step siblings, Niki and Alex’s relationship is controversial due to their 20 year age gap – Niki is only 17 years old while Alex is 37 years old!

If you’re looking for yet another scandalous love story with a little bit of Spanish flair, you are sure to obsess over Sorry If I Call You Love just like we did.

While it is not based on a beloved Federico Moccia novel, Palm Trees in the Snow is another captivating Spanish romance film starring smokeshow actor Mario Casas.

Based on the novel of the same name by Luz Gabas, Palm Trees in the Snow follows Clarence (Adrian Ugarte) and her journey to find answers surrounding her father’s death. After receiving a peculiar letter, Clarence embarks on an excursion to Africa to visit the land where her father (Alain Hernández) and uncle (Mario Casas) spent most of their childhood, ultimately uncovering an unexpected love story along the way.

If you are looking for an intriguing Spanish romance film that unveils a shocking relationship of the past, Palm Trees in the Snow is exactly what you need to stream next.

  3. The Summer We Lived (El Verano Que Vivimos)

The Summer We Lived tells a story of the past just like Palm Trees in the Snow, all while adding a thrilling love triangle to our list.

Throughout the Spanish romance film, we watch a complicated relationship unfold between Hernan (Pablo Molinero), a man ordering a winery in Jerez de la Frontera, Gonzalo (Javier Rey), an architect hired to build the winery, and Lucía (Blanca Suárez), Hernan’s fiancé. This love story is told 40 years later through the perspective of Isabel (Guiomar Puerta), a journalist trainee who finds an anonymous obituary dedicated to Lucía.

One of the most interesting aspects of The Summer We Lived is the fact that it took place in the summer of 1958, however, the story is told from the perspective of an individual in 1998. Adding a more old-school spin to the Spanish romance genre allows The Summer We Lived to stand out amongst the rest of the movies that draw similarities to My Fault, and we are seriously obsessed.

Also featuring an intriguing love triangle, the film follows the life of Oli (Ana Fernández) who falls for her TV idol (Rodrigo Guirao Díaz), ultimately beginning a life of luxury. While Oli’s relationship continues to blossom, she quickly realizes that it might just be lust rather than love, as she starts to develop an attraction towards her best friend, Carlos (Alejo Sauras).

Fans have compared Just a Little Chemistry to My Fault due to the fact that Oli is unexpectedly thrown into a lavish lifestyle, just like Noah is when her mother marries Nick’s billionaire father. 5. Through My Window (A Través De Mi Ventana)

Based on the novel of the same name by Ariana Godoy, Through My Window highlights yet another forbidden Spanish romance that had our eyes glued to our TV screen for two hours straight.

The film captures the unexpected relationship between Raquel (Clara Galle) and Ares (Julio Peña), the boy next door whom she has had a crush on for years. Even though Raquel and Ares have never spoken a word to one another, Raquel makes it her mission to have him fall in love with her, ultimately prevailing as successful as the film progresses.

Through My Window has been compared to My Fault due to the fact that both films highlight forbidden romances that go against the wishes of their family and friends, and each movie has been extremely successful, respectively. Because of this, Netflix even confirmed two sequels for Through My Window in February of 2022, and one is coming even sooner than you may think.

After waiting for over a year, the first of these two sequels, Through My Window: Across the Sea, is set to hit Netflix on Friday, June 23rd – We seriously can’t wait!

  6. Purple Hearts

While Purple Hearts may not have as much Spanish flair as some of the other drama films on our list, it is equally as captivating.

Based on the novel of the same name by Tess Wakefield, Purple Hearts tells the complex love story of an aspiring singer-songwriter named Cassie Salazar (Sofia Carson) and a U.S. Marine named Luke Morrow (Nicholas Galitzine). When Cassie, a type one diabetic, struggles to afford insulin and Luke, a former drug addict, struggles to pay back his dealer, the unlikely duo agree to marry one another in order to receive military benefits and pay off their debts.

Even though Cassie and Luke get married strictly for the benefits, the line between real and pretend starts to fade when Luke suffers a severe injury that causes Cassie to rethink everything.

With a plot that is sure to tug on your heartstrings and an original soundtrack that we have had on repeat ever since its release, the romance captured within Purple Hearts is truly one-of-a-kind.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Josephine Langford in After
    Everett Collection

If you like the drama associated with My Fault, the After series is sure to be right up your alley.

While it does not necessarily have the same Spanish flair as My Fault, After follows the relationship between an inexperienced teenage girl named Tessa Young (Josephine Langford) and a mysterious “bad boy” named Hardin Scott (Hero Fiennes Tiffin). With tons of steamy scenes, fans have drawn similarities between Tessa and Hardin’s relationship and Noah and Nick’s relationship, given that each duo appears to be opposites on the surface, but in reality has undeniable chemistry.

Anna Todd first published the story on Wattpad in 2013, with the original storyline being based on the international boy band One Direction, portraying the band’s members Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik as students at Washington State University. With Hardin Scott depicting a young Harry Styles throughout the film, watching After seriously helps us live out our fangirl fantasies.

With three sequels to After, After We Collided, After We Fell and After Ever Happy, as well as two more movies in development, the soon-to-be six-part series is definitely binge-worthy for anyone who enjoys a dramatic love story.
