I now pronounce you, ex-husband and ex-wife!

That was allegedly the intent behind what could have happened to Scott Pilgrim co-stars Michael Cera and Aubrey Plaza, who almost got married in Las Vegas with the ultimate intention of getting divorced shortly after.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Cera shared that he and Plaza “were driving through Vegas and almost just spontaneously took a detour and got married.”

He joked, “I think the idea was to then get a divorce right away, so we could call each other ‘my ex-husband’ and ‘my ex-wife’ at like… 20.”

The two were an item at the time and dated for over a year after filming. Although they are no longer together, Cera and Plaza are still friendly.

While being interviewed on the What’s the Tee podcast hosted by RuPaul and Michelle Visage, Plaza talked about her previous relationship and current friendship with Cera.

“We love each other,” Plaza said. “We’re still really good friends. He’s just a weird little freak and we speak the same language. He’s one of the funniest people I know.”

Cera had kind words to share with Rolling Stone about Plaza, as well.

“I mean, she’s always been so committed to everything that she does,” Cera said. “It’s not surprising to me that she’s doing really well. The thing that’s surprising to me is how much she’s producing and putting together projects. It’s amazing. Ingrid Goes West? That was so great.”

Cera caught up with Decider recently to promote another new project, the sixth season of Black Mirror. He is featured in the first episode, “Joan is Awful,” where he had the unique opportunity to be punched by Annie Murphy

“It was fantastic,” Cera told Decider. “We just jumped in and did it. There was no time to rehearse anything. It was just all very fast, fast, fast.”
