Whether it’s the hunky Australian lead actor or the 21-minute action scene, Extraction 2 is certainly on its way to becoming as successful as its predecessor. Having only been out only four days (since June 16, to be exact), the highly anticipated sequel has already garnered 43 million views on Netflix — nearly half as many views as Extraction had in its first four weeks alone.

Directed by Sam Hargrave, Extraction 2 brings Chris Hemsworth back as Australian black-ops gun for hire Tyler Rake, whose new mission is to save the family of a relentless Georgian gangster as they are stuck in a state-of-the-art prison. When we last saw him, there was fear that he may have died following his efforts to rescue the abducted son of a drug lord — but lo and behold, he survives!

In the 2020 film’s first month on streaming, it brought in 99 million views, per Variety. Since the sequel — which quickly earned its spot as the No. 1 movie on Netflix — has released on the platform, the original has also reappeared on the Top 10 list, with another 9 million views.

The first Extraction film was made on a $65 million budget, according to Deadline. Exact budget info for Extraction 2 has not yet been released, but Decider has reached out to Netflix for more information.

Extraction 2 becoming a hit is no surprise as Decider’s very own John Serba gave it a firm “STREAM IT,” telling readers, “Be happy that Extraction wasn’t a oner-and-doner, because Extraction 2 is just as much fun.”

Aside from the glaring success of the original film, some of Extraction 2’s appeal can be attributed to that wild 21-minute action scene. While speaking to Decider, Hargrave revealed that Georgian actress Tinatin Dalakishvili, who plays Ketevan, even fractured her leg while filming the jaw-dropping sequence.

“That was early on, and we had a lot of other scenes to film,” Hargrave said. “So special effects made her, basically a wooden — well, it was made out of aluminum or alloy — but a peg leg, so that she could walk. We had to then adjust our framing, because we couldn’t look down and see that she’s missing a leg. Her gait was a bit off, so we had change a lot of the blocking, which was very challenging.”

Fortunately, fans can look forward to even more action-packed fun as Hemsworth announced at last weekend’s Tudum event that Extraction 3 is currently in the works.
