And Just Like ThatSarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon are dishing on what we can expect from Kim Cattrall‘s highly anticipated cameo as the beloved Samantha Jones on Season 2 of the hit Max (formerly HBO Max) reboot of Sex and the City.

With only a few mentions of Samantha and one text exchange between her and Carrie Bradshaw (Parker) in the first season of And Just Like That, it was revealed earlier this month that Cattrall — who previously said she would never reprise her iconic role — would make a one-scene cameo at the end of Season 2, which just dropped its first two episodes this week.

Showrunner Michael Patrick King told The Hollywood Reporter that “some magic happened behind the scenes” to create Cattrall’s return, which was timed in honor of the original series’ 25th anniversary. In her cameo scene — which will reportedly happen in the Season 2 finale — Samantha and Carrie have a conversation on the phone.

Parker told the outlet, “The friendship is mended. They talked about it; you’ll see. The friendship [between Carrie and Samantha] is in good shape and I think by the time we get to that phone call that we share [in the finale], the portrait is clear of where they are and who they are.”

She continued, “When we first started talking about this idea, it’s just such an opportune moment in the story and it was really a nod to the 25 years. It’s just a really sentimental, funny, sweet moment that is timed perfectly for a specific event that’s happening in Carrie’s life. It’s so familiar. So it’s really nice, I think.”

In the same interview, Davis revealed that it “seemed right for the story and for the fans” to briefly welcome Cattrall back to the series — even though she filmed the scene without interacting with any of the cast members or the showrunner, per Variety.

“Friends might move and not be in your life all the time, and that doesn’t mean you’re not friends,” Davis said. “Sometimes you don’t talk to people for a while, but that doesn’t mean you can’t reconnect. So, that rings true and I felt good about it; I felt like it was the right choice to make.”

She added, “I just hope that people aren’t disappointed. I want the fans to be happy. We all want the fans to be happy. That was on our minds.”

Unlike Mr. Big’s (Chris Noth) shocking death by Peloton at the start of Season 1, Cattrall’s guest appearance — which Nixon said was “intended as a fun surprise” — was uncovered before fans got to see it live.

“It’s a real bummer that it leaked because I think a lot of the beauty of it was that people wouldn’t know it was coming and then (clap) Samantha would just pop up,” Nixon said, before noting that her former castmate’s return is likely “one-time thing” to pay homage to the show’s anniversary, per THR.

However long or short Cattrall’s scene is, we just hope that it’s filled with more of Samantha’s witty one-liners and fabulous clothing!

New episodes of And Just Like That air on Thursdays on Max.
