Black Mirror isn’t necessarily known for its wild and crazy sex scenes, but the anthology series doesn’t hold back when its time for the characters get intimate. Over the course of six seasons, the Netflix hit has sprinkled in a few freaky sex scenes among its oftentimes intense storylines.

Created by Charlie Brooker, the series dropped its latest season on June 15, 2023, which was well-received by critics and audiences alike. The new episodes were fairly PG and didn’t deliver much in romance or sex, aside from a failed attempt at an affair and some inappropriate nudie drawings, but in past installments, the series has unapologetically turned up the heat.

Throughout the show, there have been several memorable hook-ups. In the first season, a long-term couple completely ignores each other while having sex, and instead, opts into replaying videos from past sexual encounters using their high tech memory implants. A few seasons later, two best friends start regularly screwing in their favorite video game, which they play using a virtual reality headset.

And Black Mirror has plenty more where that came from. From fun, sexy entertainment to deeply disturbing twists, all the way to WTF hilarity, the series isn’t afraid to use sex as an intriguing plot device. But what else do you expect from these dystopian nightmares? Here are some of the all-time weirdest sex scenes in the popular series.

  • “The Entire History of You” (Season 1, Episode 3)

Based on this image alone? Terrifying, traumatizing… scarring? “The Entire History of You” follows a married couple, Liam (Toby Kebbell) and Ffion (Jodie Whittaker), facing relationship issues due to jealousy over a previous relationship. One evening, the two get into a spat and reconcile before going to bed. As they’re having a late-night romp, they both tap into their high memory implants and recall previous sexual encounters, rather than paying attention to each other. Creepy!

  • “Be Right Back” (Season 2, Episode 1)

Can you say “emotional damage”? “Be Right Back” stars Hayley Atwell as a recent widow who orders an artificial intelligence android of her late boyfriend. Because of a new company, the impersonator has access to all of the recently departed’s virtual communication and social media accounts. The two engage in a montage of energetic sex and when asked about his technique, the android reveals that he has adopted a “set routine” based on her former partner’s taste in pornography. Tragic, yes… but good for her.

  • “Hang the DJ” (Season 4, Episode 4)

“Hang the DJ” features sex scenes that toe between being fun and downright awful. The episode takes place in a world where single people are forced to use a dating service that determines how long a relationship will last. Two lovebirds, Amy (Georgina Campbell) and Frank (Joe Cole), hit it off during their first date but are deemed incompatible by their respective devices. Before they find their way back to one another, they are matched with other partners. While Amy experiences mind-blowing sex with a new partner, they don’t have much of an emotional connection. Frank, on the other hand, is in a rut and finds himself going through the motions with his other prospects — resulting in a few failed sexual encounters. Wah-wah.

  • “Black Museum” (Season 4, Episode 6)

“Black Museum” takes the cake for the most disturbing sex scene in the show’s history. The episode follows Dr. Rolo Haynes (Douglas Hodge) as he tests an implant that allows him to feel the physical sensations of someone wearing an experimental hairnet. After being aroused by a man dying, he becomes addicted to the feeling of other people’s pain. Sure, that’s some people’s kink but he takes it a million steps too far. The doctor has sex with a woman while she’s wearing the hairnet and decides to turn things up a notch, introducing increasingly intense S&M activities into their routine. The woman eventually taps out after he repeatedly smacks her while they’re getting it on from behind.

  • “Striking Vipers” (Season 5, Episode 1)

“Striking Vipers,” you will always be famous. The episode received mixed reviews due to its detour from the show’s usual pessimistic route, but what it lacks in tragedy, it makes up in wacky, sexy exploits. Anthony Mackie and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II play two longtime friends who explore each other’s “bodies” while playing a virtual reality video game. Ludi Lin and Pom Klementieff play their video game counterparts, and get down and dirty multiple times throughout the episode, in various different places in the virtual world. There’s sex against a wall, sex on the beach, sex in a garden full of cherry blossoms and more. Gratuitous, adventurous and a little forbidden… all the qualities that guarantee a good time.
