James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’ Has Cast Its Clark Kent and Lois Lane: David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan

Director James Gunn‘s Superman: Legacy has found its dynamic duo to play Clark Kent and Lois Lane: actor David Corenswet and Emmy-winner Rachel Brosnahan.

After months of auditions and two days of in-person screen tests, in which Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney were also up for Clark Kent and Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor were considered for Lois Lane as well, per The Hollywood Reporter, the two stars have been finally been selected. Interestingly enough, the outlet noted that Brosnahan was originally paired with Hoult, while Corenswet read alongside Mackey during the screen tests.

Additionally, Mackey was the only potential Lois Lane selection to read alongside all three Clark Kent contenders finalists on the second day of tests.

According to Deadline, these tests involved the potential Clark Kents donning full Superman garb, including makeup.

Gunn took to Twitter to confirm the superb news by retweeting the report from THR and writing, “Accurate! (They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people).”

Fans commended the casting in the comments, with one specifically noting Corenswet’s striking resemblance to Henry Cavill, who previously played Clark Kent in the DC franchise in the 2013 Man of Steel and in the 2016 Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Cavill wished to reprise his role in the red and blue suit after his cameo in The Flash and his role in Black Adam, but DC reportedly wanted a younger Superman for their upcoming film.

Fans are still awaiting the supervillain star selection for Lex Luthor, previously portrayed by the likes of Gene Hackman (Superman), Kevin Spacey (Superman Returns), Jesse Eisenberg (Batman v. Superman) Jon Cryer (Supergirl) and Matthew Rosenbaum in Smallville. We’re also waiting on casting for Jimmy Olsen, Kent’s friend and photojournalist at The Daily Planet.

The film will be produced by DC Studios under both Gunn and the studio’s co-chairperson Peter Safran.

Superman: Legacy is set to be released on July 11, 2025.
