Fans of Max‘s The Other Two will be devastated to learn that tomorrow’s Season 3 finale will be the final episode of the series. The parody of Hollywood and the entertainment industry continued to provide fans with laughs as it transitioned from Comedy Central to Max.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comedy’s showrunners and former Saturday Night Live head writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider are to blame, as they have been the root of a multitude of HR complaints behind the scenes. Kelly was accused of verbal abuse and overworking the show’s crew, while Schneider was allegedly enabling the unjust behavior. Things got so bad that the duo were reportedly “not permitted on set for a period [of time].”

One insider told THR, “There’s a lot of Chris and Sarah in the show … I think a lot of their frustration comes from not being on-camera.”

They continued, “These are two people who started off as improvisers. This is a show about people who are hungering for fame. Their friends and colleagues became well-known. … It’s a lot like the show.”

Another insider eloquently described the horrifying environment fostered in the show’s writer’s room, saying, “Other writers tell stories about The Other Two writers’ rooms like other people tell ghost stories.”

Interestingly enough, while being interviewed by Vogue about Season 3 in May, both Kelly and Schneider commented on their work-life balance, Kelly saying that they’ve “both been struggling” with finding a happy medium.

SNL alum and previous head writer Tina Fey even alluded to Kelly and Schneider’s behavior on set while being honored at the 2023 PEN America Literary Awards in March.

Fey joked about the show’s executive producer Lorne Michaels, quipping, “Nobody indulges writers like Lorne Michaels,” elaborating that Michaels has “unleashed an army of monsters into the world.”

“You know it, I know it, and the crew of The Other Two knows it — oh I was supposed to change that. I was supposed to change that. That’s inappropriate. Oh well, it’s not livestreaming.”

Nonetheless, the final episode of the third season was designed to wrap up the series. Kelly and Schneider released a joint statement explaining the end of the show, deeming its cause to the that they have run “out of ways to humiliate Drew Tarver,” who plays Cary Dubek.

The statement also included that “It is bittersweet to say goodbye to the Dubek family after three seasons,” but that both Kelly and Schneider are “deeply grateful to everyone (gays) who watched the show, to Max for giving us a second home and life, and to our writers, producers and crew, who gave so much of their time, talent, and passion to this show over the last 45ish years.” The two writers also give “an enormous thank you to Heléne, Drew, Molly, Case, Wanda, Josh, Brandon, and everyone in our brilliant cast (except Ken) who all made this show better than it had any right to be, and who we will miss terribly (especially Ken),” and end the statement with, “Long live ChaseDreams. #chasedreams #globsaregay #feet.”

Tellingly, their statement did not include any reference to complaints filed against them.

The season finale of The Other Two will be released Thursday at 12 a.m. PT/3 a.m. ET
